Libertarian Party Advances to Second Round of 2026 Convention Theme Contest

A contest by the Libertarian Party to choose the theme for its next national convention has entered its second round this week, with a list of choices under consideration now publicly available. The party will make a final determination in May.

Since early March, the party has been collecting submissions from supporters to determine the theme of the 2026 Libertarian National Convention, requesting ideas that are “unmistakably Libertarian.” The convention is set for next May in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The contest also doubles as a fundraiser, with the winning theme being the submission that garners the most donor support.

On Wednesday, the party advanced to the next round of the process, publishing a list of potential choices for donors to back. A total of 22 ideas were submitted, contributing nearly $1,000 in initial donations. According to the party, voting on those options will continue through April, with the final winner announced in early May.

People. Not Politics. Sounds like Democrat buzzwords, which means it will win as the party continues to shift far left.

The Libertarian Party gave another update on social media today, stating that the top three themes as of this moment are:

    1. People. not Politics. ($1,065)
    2. Freedom Calls ($885)
    3. Enter The Radicals: Freedom Without Compromise ($210)

Voting will close on April 30.

Revisiting this because it’s been almost two weeks, there are two choices that have gathered enough support to exceed $500. They are “Freedom Calls” with $835 and “People. not Politics.” with $565. No other options have surpassed that amount.

“Enter The Radicals: Freedom Without Compromise”
A bit double-barreled. Either of those would be better on its own. I’d go for the second.

    “Liberty Is Supernatural”
No, exactly not. Liberty IS natural law. It is divine law and eternal law that go beyond nature. Cf. Thomas Aquinas, Richard Hooker, John Locke, James Madison, Lysander Spooner.

    “A New Gold Standard”
    Fine.

    “Liberty Leads the Way”
    Fine.

“We Americans Are, And Of A Right Ought To Be, Free!”
Corny, but I like the reference. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue though, does it?

    “People. Not Politics.”
    A bit generic, but sure.

    “Peaceful Is Powerful”
Nice theme for a pacifist party, not a libertarian one. It rather suggests that you completely missed the point of the NAP. You’d be better off with “Powerful is Peaceful”.

    “Make America Peaceful Again”
*sigh* The whole “Make American […] Again” is starting to wear thing, but maybe that’s just me.

    “Empowering Individual Freedoms”
The meaning is good, but the choice of words sounds poor. How about “Enabling/Facilitating Individual Liberties”?

    “Freedom Calls”
    Good band!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N1gN03S8Wc
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeDISpnhSPE

    “Out With The Old”
Ugh. “Out with the Bloody Progressives”.

    “Regulate This, You”
“You” what? Either say it or leave the “you” off entirely. This was almost certainly censored after it was submitted. “Regulate deez nuts”

    “Fire I.C.E.”
Cheesy. And crafted to exclude a significant portion of those with realistic views about the border and illegal immigration. “Privatize I.C.E.” would have been a better theme.

    “Principled And Powerful”
    Fine.

“Rule Of Law And Constitutional Right”
So the first half is crafted to exclude the anarchists, and the second half just confirms that libertarians are better off joining the Constitution Party…

    “Free People For Free People!”
Oh boy, we got some real wordsmiths over here, huh. How about “By free people, of free people, for free people”? It isn’t catchy by any standard, but it’s sure catchier than whatever that was.

    “Off My Back, Bro”
You are missing a verb. Is “Get off my back” – there is no need for pretentious false familiarity – perhaps what you meant?

“What Don’t We Own-Let’s Go Get That!”
Oh yikes. I didn’t realize that the LP now had a Stirner, Gautier and/or Nilsson Caucus…

    “Rise Above the Rest”
Cream rises to the top… then again, so does scum.

“Lead with Principle. Stand with Strength.”
    Fine.

    “Expand”
Expansionist “libertarians”, eh? More like “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish”. That sure describes the LINO’s modus operandi of infiltrating and destroying the LP, and look how well it has worked for them so far.

    “Liberty Without Compromise”
    Fine.
