U.S. Pirate Party Endorses Hunter Rand in Nevada City Council Race

The United States Pirate Party has endorsed Hunter Rand in his race for the Ward 2 seat on the Sparks City Council in Nevada following a unanimous vote of its Pirate National Committee.

In a November 4 statement, the party said its National Committee voted to back Rand’s campaign during its most recent monthly meeting. Sparks, located just east of Reno, has a population of about 108,000 and is divided into five wards for City Council elections, each representing a similar number of residents. Like most municipal offices in Nevada, the race is officially nonpartisan.

According to his website, Rand works as a compliance officer and director of marketing at a Nevada- and Florida-based estate planning firm, where he has focused on expanding services to rural communities and Spanish-speaking residents in Sparks. Outside of that role, he has built a career in media and consults as an engineer for a local satellite broadcast operator.

The party added that Rand is not new to the organization, having previously appeared as a guest speaker at the Pirate Party’s 2022 national conference. During the endorsement meeting, the party said he focused on a pragmatic approach to local government, stating that “potholes don’t care who you vote for,” and that he otherwise aligned with the party on its key values.

Rand’s endorsement is one of several made by the U.S. Pirate Party for the 2026 election cycle. Earlier this year, the party announced its support for the independent gubernatorial campaign of Timothy Grady in Ohio and Pirate Party member Blase Henry in Arizona’s 17th Legislative District, with the latter being the first time the national organization has backed a candidate in that state.

In a separate email this month to Independent Political Report, the party said additional endorsements are expected for the 2026 cycle. It is also eyeing candidates for the 2027 off-year cycle in the Chicago metropolitan region. The party did not field any candidates in the 2025 cycle.
