Arizona Libertarian Party to Hold 2026 State Convention in Tucson

The Arizona Libertarian Party will hold its 2026 state convention next January in Tucson, with the organization’s Pima County affiliate organizing a series of workshops, guest speakers, and special events throughout the convention weekend.

According to details shared online, the party will hold its convention from January 23–25 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa. “Join your fellow liberty-minded citizens in a friendly exploration of the critical issues we face in these divisive times,” registration materials read. “Whether you are a member of the Libertarian Party or not, we welcome you to attend.”

Under the Arizona Libertarian Party’s constitution, the party recognizes three classes of membership. Class A members are registered Libertarian voters, Class B members are precinct-level party committee members, and Class C members serve on the party’s State Committee. Class C members are selected ahead of time through committees composed of Class B members, who themselves are elected by Class A members during the primary election.

Advance registration is required, with the business portion of the convention free to attend for party members of all classes. The party asks that all members be prepared to present their voter registration. Entertainment portions of the convention and access to workshops will require the purchase of an appropriate package.

The Pima County affiliate will host a series of events on Friday evening, while also offering early convention check-in at its headquarters. The agenda features author Larken Rose, who will host a comedy roast of the Libertarian Party, as well as a performance by Tucson-based theatre troupe Gaslight Theater, which will present “The Belle of Tombstone.”

Saturday will focus on annual party business and the selection of delegates to the 2026 Libertarian National Convention. Voting on party business, including the election of officers, amendments to the bylaws, and adoption of the party platform, is reserved exclusively for Class C members. Delegate selection for the national convention includes automatic slots for county chairs and party officers, with additional seats elected by Class B members present at the convention. The party has said it will mail delegate candidacy instructions to members this month.

Saturday will also include a morning speech by Cheryl Todd, executive director of Gun Freedom Radio and vice president of the Arizona Citizens Defense League. Afternoon remarks will be delivered by Perry Willis, a longtime Libertarian Party activist who has more recently been involved in developing the national party’s Parity Project plan. The evening keynote, alongside a formal dinner, will be given by Scott Horton, editorial director of Antiwar.com.

In addition to the scheduled speakers, the convention will feature workshops on political activism, urban farming, and off-grid living. The party is also hosting an exclusive whiskey and bourbon tasting panel featuring several established Arizona Libertarians, along with several of the aforementioned guest speakers participating in the discussion.

Formal convention business will conclude Saturday night, though additional activities are scheduled for Sunday. That following afternoon will include a volunteer project with the Gospel Rescue Mission, a Christian nonprofit organization that provides clothing, shelter, and spiritual counseling to people in need. Organizers have said the project reflects libertarian values in practice.

“While libertarians understand (or should) the difference between being a Voluntaryist vs. being a Volunteer, part of the voluntaryist philosophy does include the incorporation of volunteering into our practice of the non-aggression principle,” organizers said. “Society is greater than government. As such, this opportunity to volunteer is being facilitated with the host libertarians of Pima.”

Sunday afternoon’s agenda will also include a lunch and presentation at the United States–Mexico border, as well as a driving tour of Nogales hosted by Santa Cruz Sheriff David Hathaway.

Considering the new chair of the AZ LP is a right-wing Christian gun nut and anti-abortionist from Tucson, it’s no surprise the agenda reads as it does.
