The Libertarian Party of Minnesota will hold its 2026 state convention in Owatonna next March. Party delegates will conduct officer elections, make endorsements for the 2026 election cycle, and select Minnesota’s delegation to the Libertarian National Convention.
In a call to convention this week, the party announced that it will be held at the Baymont by Wyndham Hotel from March 27–29. The party is encouraging members to register early and is currently providing discounted early registration rates through January 15, after which standard rates will apply. Members may also opt to register at the door, though the party noted that onsite registration will come at a higher cost.
Under the Libertarian Party of Minnesota’s bylaws, all party members who meet Minnesota residency requirements and are eligible to vote may register as delegates to the state convention. Individuals who joined the party fewer than 45 days before the convention are not eligible to serve as delegates unless they are renewing a membership that expired less than 12 months earlier. Members whose memberships have lapsed but remain within the renewal window may regain eligibility by paying back dues equal to either the annual basic membership cost or the amount of unpaid dues, whichever is less.
The party has not yet released a full agenda or complete list of speakers; however, Scott Horton is scheduled to address delegates on Saturday. Horton is the executive director of the nonprofit Libertarian Institute and hosts The Scott Horton Show, a podcast focused on U.S. foreign policy and civil liberties.
Per the bylaws, delegates are also expected to consider candidate endorsements for the 2026 election cycle, vote on any proposed changes to the party’s platform and bylaws, and elect new party officers, including up to six at-large members. Voting on officers will be conducted using approval voting unless the number of candidates allows for election by acclamation.
In addition to annual state party business, delegates will select Minnesota’s national delegation to the Libertarian National Convention, which is scheduled to take place in Michigan next year. According to figures provided at the start of this month by the national organization, the Minnesota affiliate is expected to be allocated 17 delegates. That figure reflects a reduction of one seat from its previous national convention allotment.
