The Maine Green Independent Party will hold its 2026 annual convention next month in Belfast, where members will elect party leadership, consider platform and bylaw changes, and choose representatives to the national organization.
The party published convention details Thursday, stating that the event will take place May 30 at the Belfast Free Library. The convention will begin at 9:00 AM ET and is open to the public. A suggested registration fee is in place for those participating in party business, though the party said attendance is open regardless of ability to pay.
“The annual convention is a unique opportunity to come together, build community, and strengthen the Green Party in Maine,” the party said. “During the convention, you’ll hear from inspiring speakers who are doing incredible organizing work in Maine and around the country.”
The party said registered Greens are welcome to vote. Under party bylaws, voting at the convention is limited to members as defined in Article II, which includes both registered Green Independent Party voters in Maine and individuals unable to register to vote who wish to join the party. The state maintains a list of such members, who are entitled to full participation except where restricted by law.
While the party has not published a full agenda, in even-numbered years annual conventions include adopting a party platform, electing state committee members and other party officers, determining the structure of county committees, and setting organizational goals and a budget. The convention also sets internal rules, including voter eligibility for future primaries, and elects representatives to the Green National Committee.
The party said members may also submit proposals to amend the platform or bylaws, with a deadline of April 30 for consideration at the convention. Submissions should be sent to the party’s Convention Committee.
