The Working Families Party has introduced a national policy platform that it calls the “Working Families Guarantee,” compiling a list of five economic proposals the party says will inform its political efforts moving forward.
The party announced the release of the document this month, with National Director Maurice Mitchell calling it “the cornerstone of [the Working Families Party’s] economic agenda for working people” in a recent email to supporters. The party added on its national website that the policy was formally approved by members, who voted to adopt it on April 20.
The plan centers on a set of universal economic policies, including guaranteed healthcare, a national jobs program tied to union employment, subsidized childcare, paid family leave, and efforts to reduce housing and utility costs. To realize the guarantee, the party said it would prioritize taxing the rich and reducing the influence of money in politics, though it does not provide specifics.
In the email, Mitchell argued that the goals put forward in the agenda are achievable and pointed to the organization’s history of successfully advancing working-class reforms at the state level, specifically paid leave programs in Connecticut and New Jersey, as well as expanded childcare access in New Mexico. He added that the party also expects to advance similar reforms in New York City.
“None of this is pie in the sky,” Mitchell said. “We know, because the Working Families Party has won these kinds of victories for working families in state after state for more than two decades.”
According to the party, work on the document began last year through its affiliated organization, Working Families Power, as part of a separate multiracial working-class research project that had been underway. The group conducted quarterly polling throughout 2025 and worked with “multiple partners, research organizations and constituent organizations” to identify policies with majority support among working-class voters.
The party also released a list alongside the announcement showing that more than two dozen candidates and current elected officials have endorsed the Guarantee, all of whom are members of the Democratic Party and have pledged to fight for it.
Among the more prominent endorsers of the agenda are U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, and Jeff Merkley, along with U.S. House members including Ro Khanna, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. The party also lists a number of congressional candidates for the 2026 election cycle among its supporters.
