Pennsylvania Libertarian Ken Krawchuk Launches Statewide Pub Crawl for Gubernatorial Ballot Access

Pennsylvania Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Ken Krawchuk has launched an eight-day statewide pub crawl to connect directly with voters and members of the press, during which he will also collect signatures for ballot access.

Krawchuk kicked off the tour on July 8 and plans to continue through July 15. In a campaign statement announcing the crawl and shared by the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania, Krawchuk said he expects to visit “literally dozens” of local brew pubs across Pennsylvania and will be joined at various points by Libertarian candidates running for state representative this year.

Krawchuk and his running mate, John Thomas, were formally nominated at the Pennsylvania affiliate’s annual state convention in March. Under Pennsylvania rules, Krawchuk needs 5,000 signatures to appear on the general election ballot this cycle. In addition to collecting his own signatures, Krawchuk said the pub crawl is also intended to help local Libertarian candidates collect the signatures they need, though he did not specify which candidates would participate.

Scheduled stops include Appalachian Brewing Company in Gettysburg, Southern Tier Brewery in Pittsburgh, Levity Brewing Co. in Altoona, Stone Bridge Brewing Taproom in Johnstown, and Mutant Brewing in Scranton. The campaign included a full list with the statement. Based on that, Krawchuk has already stopped in Ephrata, Lebanon, Hershey, Lancaster, and York.

“It’s just an opportunity to engage with regular people in a regular environment, not to mention a good way to collect signatures to ensure ballot access,” Krawchuck said in the statement. “I’m expecting the voters will be—and have been!—very receptive to the Libertarian plan to eliminate the much-hated school property tax and to fix our failing schools.”

Krawchuk said he also plans to use the crawl as an opportunity to stay at various Pennsylvania state parks, calling himself a “life-long camper and overnight backpacker.” Among those areas Krawchuk will stay include Keystone, Pymatuning, Cook Forest, Poe Valley, Frances Slocum, and Locust Lake state parks.
