Daryl D’Angelo, chair of the New Hampshire Classic Liberal Party, has submitted enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot in Hillsborough District 37, becoming the first candidate from the party to secure ballot access this election cycle.
In a statement shared with Independent Political Report over the weekend, the D’Angelo campaign confirmed that she will appear on the ballot using the Classic Liberal designation. To qualify under the petitioning process, D’Angelo and her volunteers had to submit at least 150 valid signatures to the New Hampshire Secretary of State, with the campaign reporting it submitted 196 certified signatures.
D’Angelo is running in a floterial district covering the towns of Amherst and Milford, a type of legislative district used in New Hampshire in which voters elect an additional representative from an area that overlaps communities already represented through separate state House districts. The campaign said she collected the signatures without paid circulators or outside organizational support, relying instead on “meaningful conversations with local residents and volunteers.”
“We are incredibly grateful for the warm reception and support we’ve received from the people of Amherst and Milford,” D’Angelo told IPR. “Gathering these signatures was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our neighbors about the shared New Hampshire values that bring us together.”
D’Angelo, who previously told IPR that she is an Amherst resident active in local conservation efforts, including serving as chair of the Amherst Conservation Commission, launched her campaign earlier this year. In a statement at the time, she said she would focus primarily on local issues like property taxes and accountability in education. D’Angelo has also said her campaign is rooted in the core tenets of the New Hampshire Classic Liberal Party, which she defines as “social tolerance, individual liberty, and fiscal responsibility.”
To date, D’Angelo’s campaign is the first legislative bid by a member of the New Hampshire Classic Liberal Party that IPR has been able to identify. The party is the New Hampshire affiliate of Liberal Party USA, a national organization formed in 2024 by former Libertarians and state groups that broke with the Libertarian Party, with the Classic Liberal Party joining during the national organization’s inaugural convention in Houston that December.
“By prioritizing free people governing themselves in a practical and tolerant manner, the NH-CLP aims to promote an inclusive vision for the state,” the statement adds about the party itself, “one that respects property rights, limits government overreach, and champions the potential of every Granite Stater.”
Notably, D’Angelo’s campaign also appears to be the first state legislative bid by a Liberal Party USA member that IPR has identified anywhere this election cycle. The party’s New Mexico affiliate is the only other affiliate IPR has identified as fielding candidates, with two members pursuing county office later this year.
