Elect the biggest fool in South Dakota

Most candidates for U.S. Senate try to present themselves as qualified, experienced, and principled leaders. Not so much for Joseph L. Pengitore, an independent candidate for Senate in South Dakota. He’s running as “the biggest fool in South Dakota” and his campaign website is a collection of about 109 pages filled with cartoons and snippits from his platform.

It’s really kind of an odd mixture of ideas. The cartoons and positions are pretty funny and worth clicking through, if you’re bored.

He claims to have recently been employed as a dish washer and a maid in a motel. He supports traditional marriage = Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. He also advocates making all fuel contain 20% ethanol – “Sing it again Johnny Paycheck. You Arabs, take your Oil and shove it.”

Pengitore also has a scheme to raise taxes on entertainment products based on their rating. So a G rated film would be taxed less than an R rated film.

He seems to be a rather authoritarian leaning fool.

He lost me at “Maybe if [politicians] were politically neutered or spaded they would be more cooperative!”

I can go for cute gimmicks. Hell, I thought the idea of a pirate candidate (for student president at a local U) was amusing.

But ‘spaded’. I just can’t get behind such egregious misuse of the English language.

As for the metaphor itself, I do like the idea of political castration, but NOT in the name of making politicians more ‘effective’. God forbid!

But, OK, he does have at least one good zinger (I do not comment on the issue itself): “Unless You Believe in ZOMBIES Capital Punishment does deter crime”.

Well, his platform is no less intelligent and consistent as those of the major parties. At least he has a funny gimmick.
