Postal fire delays Brian Moore’s Presidential candidacy papers seven weeks

Des Moines, Iowa, Tuesday, September 30, 2008: Sarah G. Reisetter, Elections director of the the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office, emailed Socialist Party presidential candidate Brian Moore today indicating that his original statement of candidacy, postmarked August 11, 2008, arrived in the Iowa Secretary of State’s office seven weeks later, on September 29th, 2008.

Ms. Reisetter reported that Moore’s statement of candidacy arrived with a letter from the United States Postal Service with the following statement: “Enclosed please find damaged and loose articles that were in a fire due to an accident during transportation. We sincerely regret the damage done to your mail during handling by the Postal Service…”

The postal service also concluded in it’s note that “this was a rare accident.” They hoped the state officials would understand and apologized. Mr. Moore said of the Iowa state officials, “They were gracious in accepting my affidavits in August, attesting that I mailed the necessary documents to their offices on time, now they know I was telling the truth.”

The Moore campaign was also informed by their lawyer that the 5th Circut appeals court had refused to put them on the ballot, and that all they can do is wait and hope for the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene on the Libertarian Party’s lawsuit related to both political parties’ ballot access efforts in Louisiana several weeks ago. Moore hopes for an affirmative decision by the highest court in the land and then use the Libertarian’s fortunes to ask for reconsideration from the Fifth Circut again for both Mississippi and Louisiana ballot decisions.

The Socialist ticket is already on eight states (Florida, Ohio, Colorardo, Wisconsin, Vermont, New Jersey, Iowa and Tennessee). So far they have qualified for write in status in the states of Michigan, Texas, North Carolina and Indiana. They are in the process of applying to 15 other states as well.

“If there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls capitalism and real capitalism, maybe there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls socialism and real socialism?”

Sort of. Socialism has its own way of running the market and in its full form (even though it’s NEVER been realized) is theorized to be able to heal itself quite efficiently. Problem is… at whose cost? =]

    GE,

Voluntary socialism can work…it is essentially round-robin charity.

  3. G.E. October 1, 2008

Because voluntary cannibalism can work and voluntary socialism cannot.

Voluntary socialism is like voluntary rape.

  4. paulie cannoli October 1, 2008

Why would voluntary cannibalism be better than voluntary socialism?

  5. G.E. October 1, 2008

It could have been misinterpreted. What I wanted to say is that socialism is inherently evil and violent, whereas cannibalism and even female castration (if voluntary) are not, so socialism is clearly worse. I had an open mind about socialism and studied it quite thoroughly. I was even convinced of some of its arguments for a while before I really studied economics. If you believe in freedom and peace, then there can be no compromise.

Damn, I already forgot what it was about!

  7. G.E. October 1, 2008

I changed my mind about making it.

Voluntary socialism is one such alternative.

Serious as a cannibal having a heart attack from eating too many fat humans.

  10. G.E. October 1, 2008

Cannibalism isn’t nearly as immoral as socialism, Ross. Quit believing the lies you’re being fed every day.

  11. Ross Levin October 1, 2008

Stop being ridiculous. I know you’re smarter than that, GE.

  12. Trent Hill October 1, 2008

Simultaneously, seperately they are abominable. =)

    Jason–did you get my email?

  13. G.E. October 1, 2008

Ross – Are you open-minded to cannibalism and female castration?

  14. Jeremy Young October 1, 2008

Moore has sure been having one heck of a run of bad luck. Hurricanes, fires, and I think he was in the hospital at one point as well.

No version of socialism, existing or professed, has escaped natural law; thus all have failed, are failing, or would fail. There’s being open minded, and there’s being foolish.

  16. Ross Levin October 1, 2008

    You’re very openminded…

“If there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls capitalism and real capitalism, maybe there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls socialism and real socialism?”

The Mainstream tends to use socialism as a smear word for Democrats, so yeah, there’s a difference. Real socialism, as professed by socialists, is far worse.

  18. G.E. October 1, 2008

A capitalist pig ate Brian Moore’s homework.

If there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls capitalism and real capitalism, maybe there’s a difference between what the mainstream calls socialism and real socialism?

  20. darolew October 1, 2008

Deran, like most socialists, can’t tell the difference between corporatism and real capitalism.

  21. Deran October 1, 2008

Socialism? Failed? LOL. rather “free market” capitalism is a dead ideology. The corpse is on a pyre of tax payer dollars even as we write.

I will take a wild guess and say that socialist policies will become a lot more appealing to the US public in the wake of the collapse of banksterism, Neo-liberal economics and globalization.

By “you” of course I was refering to the socialist Moore.

“Irony. The Socialist is dealing with the failures of postal socialization.”

    Poetic justice.

Next time, you should admit that socialism is a failed system and use one of the private overnight delivery companies with a tracking number.
