Former Sheriff Richard Mack has announced that he will run for Congress as a Republican candidate in Texas’ 21st Congressional District. Mack is perhaps best known as a gun rights activist and as a speaker on the role of law enforcement in America. Mack was the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona in 2006. He has also spoken at a number of events for the Constitution Party, including the North Carolina CP’s state convention in August. Mack has endorsed candidates from the LP and the CP in the past.
The district Mack is running in has been represented by Republican Lamar Smith since 1987.
Sheriff Richard Mack is the best quality citizen in the United States.
We need him to work with Marine, Senator Allen West to clean Congress. Then help restore Davy Crocket spirit to our government.

Bob kelleher of Montana was a pro life Democrat, who also ran aor a Kelleher s a Green before filing as a Republican against incumbent Democrat Max Baucus. Nobody thought Bob had a chance, but with a number of unknown Republicans in the primary, beating each other up. Kelleher won. The Republicans kept telling folks to support their candidates, but when one person stood up at a meeting and asked for a Kelleher sign, the place went silent. Anyway Kelleher was a Democrat running in a Republican primary

Mack was on a reality tv show on Showtime called American Candidate, and he made a damn fool of himself on there. Fortunately, the show was a flop and hardly anyone even remembers the show. Montel Williams was the host.
NF is right. Conley voted for Ron Paul in the Republican primary in South Carolina before he filed for Senate in the Democrat primary the same year.
But even Conley was a Republican turned Democrat.
Oh, Kelleher was a Republican, sorry, but Conley was definitely a Democrat.
NF, there have been some; Bob Kelleher for Senate in Montana and Bob Conley for Senate in South Carolina in 2008, I believe. The Catholic Trotskyist Party also has some libertarian and constitutionalist-oriented positions on some issues and may run some candidates as Democrats one day.
Also, he ran for President on a reality show.
I don’t disagree with what Gene says but I sure would like to see a constitutional or libertarian-oriented person run as a Democrat once in a while. It would blunt the criticism that the LP and the CP are just the “minor leagues” for the GOP.
One hopes that Lamar Smith is retiring, or that Richard Mack can beat him in the primary.
Richard Mack can do more good as a Congressman than as a candidate for President.
The reason so many good Libertarians or Constitutionalists run for Congress as Republicans is that the LP and the CP have wasted their time, resources and credibility running insignificant campaigns for President, rather than building up local party organizations.
Richard Mack was never very likely. Moore was. Tancredo is out now too.
