The ballot qualified American Independent Party in California, which was allied with the Constitution Party and its predecessor, the US Taxpayers Party, for the purpose of presidential ballot access from 1992 to 2004, was taken over by a faction that supported Alan Keyes in 2008. As a result, for the first time, the Constitution Party’s national ticket was not on the ballot in California.
Since then, a group which remains allied with the national Constitution Party and the group formerly allied with Keyes (they parted ways this year) have been suing each other for control of the AIP and its ballot line, but so far the group formerly allied with Keyes has remained the recognized affiliate with state ballot access.
However, rumors are going around now that there may be a reconciliation underway and that the current AIP leadership may put the Constitution Party’s national ticket of Virgil Goode for President and Jim Clymer for VP on the California ballot. Given that California has the highest population of any state, that would be a big deal for the national ticket’s overall numbers.
At this stage I have seen no solid evidence of whether this will happen or not. Readers are welcome to share opinions and facts in the comments, but please keep ad hominem incivility to a minimum.

Party of California was not taken over by

City the delegates from California gave 80 %
support for Dr. Alan Keyes in April, 2008.
Even former AIP Chairman Jim King supported
Dr. Keyes for POTUS at the Kansas City convention. I am informed by the AIP secretary
that Jim Clymer who is running for VPOTUS
with Mr. Goode is a co-plantiff with the AIP
secretary over the issue related to Obama’s lack
of qualifications to run for POTUS.
I have many friends in the Constitution Party.
My issues has been how the CP has treated my friend Michael P. in the lock out after Tampa.

@14 … I hope Virgil goes too – his one-on-one skills should help. On the other hand, they’ll probably be 12 people at a California state wide “convention,” so what the leadership wants the AIP will do.
And good grief, if Laurie Roth is in the mix, there will be a new definition of bizarre.
We will find out at the AIP’s state convention coming up- that should decide it. In fact me and Janine Hansen might attend it as guests.
I would hope that the two could work together in the future. Hopefully we can all put the past behind us an move on united. Freedom needs all of our voices.

Most of them were eliminated because they hadn’t filed with the FEC. Of course no one needs to file with the FEC until he or she has raised or spent $5,000 on the presidential campaign. It was a rather arbitrary action on her part. I don’t understand why she removed Goode, though.

That’s what the Constitution Party of Oregon, the Reform Party of Kansas, the Independent Green Party of Virginia, and the Alaskan Independence Party did during the last election.

Virgil Goode is not on the American Independent Party presidential primary in California. The AIP presidential primary just lists Ed Noonan, Mad Max Riekse, and Laurie Roth. This is because the California Secretary of State eliminated most of the names the AIP wanted on its presidential primary ballot, including Goode.
That doesn’t mean the AIP can’t nominate Goode at its convention on June 8 in Sacramento. The presidential primary is not binding.

What, no plans for an umpteenth Keyes presidential campaign? I thought he was going to break Harold Stassen’s record.
Alan Keyes supported the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, just like Virgil Goode. So there should be no problem getting Keyes supportes lined up behind Goode.
It certainly would be a big deal! Goode and the current CP would be smart to try to unite with the recognized CA AIP. CA is over 10% of the population and any TP can’t just disregard those numbers.
It wouldn’t hurt the Party if Goode and Clymer shows up and campaigns in the CA AIP Primary. Would be good for publisity and energizing the Party bases from years gone by. Wouldn’t hurt in fundraising either. Party members could furnish them a bed and breakfast saving the campaign several $Ts.
Has anyone mentioned that Goode should attempt to appear on the major Christian programs in the nation. Starting perhaps with Pat Robertson, and work on all the biggies to the Focus on the Family guy. I know the CP has many members and friends in the mormon faith, but you can believe there are MILLIONS of Christian who don’t like Romney and will not vote for him under any circumstances. Mark it down. Goode could make major inroads on this discontent.
