John L. Mealer is no stranger to being a citizen-candidate running against the odds for elective office. Two years ago, he was a candidate for President. This time around, he’s set his sights on Arizona Governor. And with AZ Gov. Jan Brewer leaving due to term limits, it should be an exciting race.
When John L. Mealer ran for President in 2012 in the Constitution Party primary, our sister publication Whiteout Press officially endorsed him. There were a slew of other candidates, including former Rep. Virgil Goode who eventually won the party’s nomination. But Mealer had a few qualities that were obvious in him that weren’t as apparent in the other candidates that earned him the endorsement. Some people are intelligent. Some people are honest. And some people are righteous. JL Mealer is one of the few that comes across as all three.
Independent, small-L-libertarian on Americans Elect line
Anyone who’s ever attempted to run for political office knows the mine field and pit falls the Democrats and Republicans build into election laws to limit any grassroots opposition. JL Mealer’s bid for Arizona Governor this year illustrates that common dilemma. As one example, many of us run as Democrats or Republicans so we only have to collect 500 signatures instead of 20,000. Mealer is similarly taking advantage of the established ‘Americans Elect’ line to gain access to the election ballot.
He freely admits he has no connection to Americans Elect – the former political start-up dedicated to returning government to the people. Instead, Mealer describes himself as a political independent and a ‘small-L-libertarian’. Arizona Libertarians can take heart though. Mealer’s campaign materials like to contrast the corruption of the Republicans and Democrats with the grassroots sincerity of Americans Elect and the Libertarian Party. It’s obvious he shares the LP’s affinity for the Bill of Rights, US Constitution, freedom and justice.

Make that second libertarian the SMALL “l” libertarian.
typos typos typos
I decided to web search my name today and here I am. ((I suppose this means according to LurleenHass, “I has arises.”
Quick note: There is an official card carrying “L”ibertarian and the man in the trenches who wants the government off his back “L”ibertarian. I would be of the latter type because i do not prescribe to the rationale of joining a group of individuals who’ve given their allegiance to a political party.
By the way… NO political party is cool.
Regarding the other comments: I have no comment because if someone -anyone- had true issues with me, they would contact me directly and not simply try to maintain two identities simply to badmouth me.
See you guys the next time around.
JL
Mealer arises and lies! WOW! Why should I expect any different? No we don’t always appear together and haven’t written to one another since last fall when I left his campaign. What group of ex-volunteers? Who are they? I don’t know their names and never asked anyone to break campaign finance laws. I have all the emails Mr. Mealer showing it’s the other way around. What proof do you have? You don’t. You know what, how can Mr. Mealer be tracking what I do when I don’t post anything anywhere else? Amazing! Great political answer.
My side of the story?
There is no story. These women know each other along with a group of ex-volunteers who asked me to break campaign finance laws. End of statement.
I have a couple of C.I.s following their posts. Oddly, they always appear with each other.
Now we’ll just have to see if we get his side of the story.
I’m glad we’re able to clear things up. 🙂
LOL, no. I am not working on his campaign and our views are quite different. The email alert is a plausible explanation of why you both showed up soon after each other on an old article that I hadn’t thought of.
I’m not in cahoots with Lurleen if that’s what you’re thinking. I have subscribed to the Independent News to receive emails on this post. I received an email today that Lurleen had posted. I actually had forgotten that I had even posted here. I guess you’re working on Mealer’s campaign with him and thinking that we’re trying to gang up on him. I haven’t written to or heard from Lurleen since the fall of 2013. I’m telling the truth and I have written proof. If I didn’t have written proof I wouldn’t be posting anything. I’m always able to back up what I say with proper documentation.
Any particular reason why both of you are turning on him and showing up here at the same time?
You’re welcome and rest assured if there’s one woman that this has happened to in the United States, my question is this: How many other women has Mealer treated like this here in the U.S. as well as possibly other countries?
Well, thanks for at least providing some details.
Yes as a matter of fact there are. Mealer told me to get me out of my abusive living situation he would buy a campaign house and then sign it over to me once he was either elected or not elected to office. Once elected I would be working on his staff. I found out during a phone conversation from a source who exposes political corruption that this is illegal to do. Mealer seemed interested in helping me get out of my abusive living situation and then seemed to change his mind. It seemed Lurleen Hilliard was telling him I wasn’t really being abused and she told me that she was going to tell everyone about this. I have all the screen capture conversations I had with Lurleen on Facebook and I do have all the emails Mealer sent to me as proof. I also have documentation from real health care professionals in my medical files that I was being abused. It took awhile for friends and work colleagues to help me raise the money to move as well as finding an affordable place for me to live. Mealer didn’t do anything to raise funds as he said he would – he told me over the phone that he would get a 50/50 raffle going and let me know how things were going. This never transpired. I quit working for Mealer. My health was declining and I wasn’t able to handle the abuse coming from my family.
Specific reasons why?
I retract my statement from February, 2014.
Sounds vague enough.
If the truth was known about his corruption and abuse then Nobody would ever support him as he is a disgrace, and when all is exposed he will also have charges against him for many different things and none of them minor offences.
It’s been done, I’ve seen it.
I’d have to track it down right now and google image search sucks.
I’ve spoken with John and have had several correspondence with him. He’s open and honest about what his campaign is about. He isn’t hiding anything and has a solid campaign with a real desire to help Arizona. He can back up what he says unlike the other candidates.
Maybe we should make a meme: “I was a libertarian before it was cool”.
Technically, I consider myself a Constitutional Libertarian, and I believe John falls into this category as well, even if he has a more gung-ho approach.
Lots of people regardless of actual ideology calling themselves libertarians these days…
His claim to be a Libertarian is somewhat off the wall. He’s an antiabortionist, opposes drug legalization, and has a non-libertarian (but creatively unique) approach to immigration.
Mr/Ms.. Bondurant
I invite you to come to one of our Round Table Discussions. They are every Wednesday at 9am to 11am at the Picnic Basket in Lakeside Az and from 7pm to 10pm every Thursday at Persnikkities in Show Low AZ. We will be adding Valley Locations and a Location in Tucson as they are available. The RTD’s serve as a sounding of voices for Mr. Mealer to get to know what the wants and needs are of the people of Arizona in a conversational setting mot as I “Let me talk at you” Please feel free to contact our campaign for more info at [email protected].
Clean Elections is dirty money. Dirty money to be spent on mailers that people don’t want, won’t read and will throw away or campaign signs that litter street corners.
The funds generate will never be enough to impact an election. Do it the old fashioned way. Knock on doors, attend forums and go out and meet people. Build a reputation. It works. You can impact an election. I’ve seen it happen here in AZ.
