“I would encourage LP libertarians to start by running or applying for local Neighborhood Councils.”

Offices vary from state to state and city to city. Lowest-level office in Indiana you can be elected to is a Township Advisory Board, which I was elected to as a Republican previously. There’s movement by the state legislature to get rid of them in Indiana and after serving in the position for 18 months, I agree. Advisory Boards have no power to overrule the Township Trustee on anything, and I was paid $2500 per year for if I want to be generous 4 hours’ worth of work for the year. For the first 8 months of 2020 we never met once, was never asked by the Trustee to do anything, and I was paid about $1500. When I resigned due to moving out of district my take is they exist to be a do-nothing job thank you to very localized political partisans. Nice, but it’s not like I needed the money. I ran to get involved in politics and government and that did not occur. The Township Trustees should be kept, that’s more of a real job that can be of localized aid to the community.

Above that your next level is town councils if you live in a small town and then city councils/county councils. I ran for County Council and there were roughly 2600 votes to give an idea on size of electorate.

  2. Hi George! Thanks. Very informative. A lot of hard work.

Greens had a big debate a few years ago and are trying in the US to imitate Libertarian localist strategies.

This, sadly, coincided with a far-left takeover with a lot of seeming government agents and parliamentary shenanigans.

Their disadvantage is, unless libertarian-greens, many really don’t understand local issues.

Going on about foreign policy at a Water and Soil meeting type of problem.

Still-One will encounter them more-and-more in local public office.

I would encourage LP libertarians to start by running or applying for local Neighborhood Councils.

SIX candidates for TX gov, counting write-ins. https://ballotpedia.org/Texas_gubernatorial_election,_2022
(Ballotpedia’s voting results aren’t correct or final, but it gives you the link to the one race for easy viewing.)

Barrios, for whatever reason or reasons, did badly vs Crow and Molison.

Per HB 2504, Greens have 2024 to break the 2 percent mark on a statewide race, or it’s get out the petition forms in 2026. As stated earlier in the week, I’ll have a wrap on my blog start of next week.
