B.A.N. reports on Nader, Moore, Miller

Richard Winger’s Ballot Access News recently posted updates on presidential candidates Ralph Nader (independent) and Brian Moore (Socialist Party USA), as well as independent New Mexican congressional candidate Carol Miller.

It appears that Ralph Nader will be on the Arizona ballot as an independent candidate for president:

On June 4, Ralph Nader will be turning in approximately 50,000 signatures to be an independent presidential candidate in Arizona. The requirement is 21,759 signatures. Assuming Nader has enough valid signatures, he will be the first independent presidential candidate to qualify in Arizona in the history of the existing law, which was passed in 1993.

Socialist Party presidential hopeful Brian Moore won an injunction in Ohio allowing out-of-state citizens to circulate petitions on his behalf. Although this doesn’t guarantee a spot for him on the Ohio ballot, it certainly improves his chances. See BAN for more.

Independent Carol Miller, who like Ralph Nader has previously run as a Green, has overcome onerous signature requirements to likely earn a spot on the New Mexico ballot. She’s running for Congress. Ballot Access News reports that she intends to turn in 12,000 signatures tomorrow, with a validity requirement of 5779. “It is believed that Miller will be the only U.S. House candidate in the nation in 2008 who will have overcome a petition requirement greater than 5,000 signatures,” says Winger.

Editor’s Note: I just received my first hard-copy issue of Ballot Access News in the mail this morning. I encourage IPR’s readers to consider subscribing to the publication, which has been an invaluable resource to the third-party political movement for the past twenty-three years.
