LP co-founder David Nolan has published some “belated thoughts” on the Denver convention.
After attending the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominating convention in Denver, I spent five days driving home with my wife, Elizabeth. This provided a much-needed break from politics, and gave me time to let my impressions of the convention settle. Here, after a week of “settling time,” are my impressions and observations.
First, I was surprised that the 2008 convention was noticeably smaller than the 2004 nominating convention in Atlanta. Despite claims of growth by the national party organization and predictions of a massive turnout by various factions within the party, the attendance was down by about 20% compared to four years ago, and 30% vs. eight years ago.

Actually my tickets were 1. Milnes/Ruwart, 2. Gravel/Ruwart. But Gravel’s spokesperson Skyler was snotty to me more than once.
Initiative is a progressive idea. There would be room for that in a progressive government. You want initiative, support my progressive alliance independent candidacy.
I’ll be there. I pop in there every once in a while, it’s usually empty. Anyone special attending?
Mike, you’re a Gravel fan, right?
There’s going to be a meeting in the http://www.gravel2008.us chat room tonight at 9 PM EST to talk about how to best promote the National Initiative (if any of you don’t know what it is, click on my name!).
I was walking last night, and it hit me: what does Nolan think? As always, the next day there it is. Echoing the fact that a Barr/Kubby ticket would’ve been great. Does anyone want to see Vice President Root? Or, god help us, President Root? Like Nolan, I could take Barr. I have nothing against him. He reminds me of what I might look like in a few decades (maybe taller, and better frames). But Root’s actions during the nomination process even caused Nolan himself to take him off his list. This fast talking charlatan has no place on the ticket. BARR/ROOT, jesus. The light at the end of the tunnel was when I was told it was Barr/Kubby on the phone. I’d put that bumper sticker on my car, and actively campaign. But Root?!
