If the party grows, it would dominate search engine results for the term.

“Boston Tea Party” is a name that will probably help garner votes in the short-run, but might be less attractive in the long-run. The name simply doesn’t sound very serious. Eh, maybe that’s not a bad thing. Though, it certainly makes it a little harder to find the party’s website via a search engine.
Make sure to let them know exactly which project you are donating to if you want the money directed towards a specific state and/or party.

Paulie, I’m working on getting a bank account for the Kansas affiliate, and have some funds already donated by various parties for future efforts. Once we get a debit card for the account, I can add funds to your site.

Peter, is there any reason someone else on the Jay campaign team couldn’t file the form in DC? Because I can get it done. If it needs his original signature, I can get it to him, etc. So, let’s not just leave it where it is.
“Does anyone know if there has been a surge in BTP membership in the past few hours?”
Depends on what you mean by “surge.” We didn’t double our membership, but we seem to have added mid-double-digits to our membership count this weekend.
Web site traffic is up some from the usual 200 visitors a day or so, but not to site crashing levels or anything. Most of the additional traffic today seems to have come from Google in the hours after the Fox News appearance. We probably should have asked Charles to do the Jerry Brown routine and say the web site URL two or three times.
It was a solid interview from Charles’s end. I expect we’ll continue to see people looking into the party and his candidacy based on the YouTube video, etc., for some time to come.
Ross,
I think you may be right — the name “Boston Tea Party” may be good for a significant piece of the “want to cast a protest vote but know nothing about the politics of the candidates” demographic. I’ve tried to keep my own expectations well below the “silver bullet” level, of course.

Charles Jay is going to be on the ballot in Tennessee as an independent, so he’s only going to have the Boston Tea Party label next to his name in Florida and Colorado.

GE, I didn’t know that you were that nervous for that speech you gave nominating Mary Ruwart for President at the National Convention. You did a great job!
I’m betting that Jay gets a surprising amount of votes where he is on the ballot. Why? His party’s name. I’ve been saying this since I’ve heard of them, and I still stand by it – a clever name like that will get a minor party candidate more votes than a more traditional party name.
That’s assuming, of course, that a good percentage of the electorate even knows what the Boston Tea Party was…

Charles Jay did a fine job in the interview. Fortunately there is a guy very similar to him on the PA ballot in Bob Barr. It took an enormous effort to get Barr on the ballot and the legal challenge to remove him is ongoing.

Does anyone know if there has been a surge in BTP membership in the past few hours?
CHARLES JAY grew up around the gaming business, was raised in the boxing business, and along the way has developed a colorful background through a wide range of experiences. Jay was a veteran of 17 years actively in the boxing industry, as a writer, publicist, matchmaker, booking agent, manager, and promoter. He was engaged as editorial consultant for USA Network’s “Tuesday Night Fights†for seven years, and also did some on-air work for USA. He also served as color commentator for, among others, Sunshine Network and Prime Network, and has called 13 world championship fights for national and/or international television.
He has been the host of numerous radio programs, including “Sportswatch with Charles Jay†on KDWN in Las Vegas, “Total Action†on WAXY 790 in Miami, and “Charles Jay’s Winning Edgeâ€, syndicated into 55 markets by the American Radio Networks. For the past 18 years, he has been a professional sports handicapper, and is frequently called upon to add expert analysis by radio programs across the country. CJ was a special events consultant to the casino industry from 1993-95, and helped to launch Casino Magic in Mississippi as a major venue for special events and sports promotions. Also, he’s been a casino/sports gaming columnist for a number of leading publications, including Sports Form, Casino Player, Florida Player, and The Gambler. In fact, at one point he was probably one of the most widely-circulated casino gaming columnists in the world, with particular recognition for his blackjack advice columns.
In March of 1999, he became editor-publisher of “TotalActionâ€, a sports/gaming/entertainment website portal which is a gateway for information about all forms of gaming, including that pertaining to casinos, pari-mutuels, and the lottery. On the same site, he operated “The Fight Pageâ€, which became one of the world’s premier boxing portals, and was best-known for his hard-hitting “insider†boxing stories, many of which have broken world “exclusives.†In the process, he became widely known as one of the world’s leading proponents and experts on the subject of boxing reform, having been asked to appear on numerous panels and speak at officials’ seminars. He was the author of “Operation Cleanup: A Blueprint for Boxing Reform†and “Operation Cleanup 2: Unfinished Business†– two critically-acclaimed electronic books that represent arguably the most comprehensive and in-depth examination of the boxing industry and boxing reform issues ever put into publication. In 2004 he also published a third electronic book – “Body Shots: Outside the Ring and Inside the Game of Pro Boxingâ€.
In 2003 he was the recipient of the “Dignity†Award, in the category of “Best Sports Writer,†as bestowed by the Retired Boxers Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to rendering assistance to ex-fighters in need. In an official letter of notification, the RBF referred to “the courage you have demonstrated in your writing and the integrity that is apparent in all of your journalistic piecesâ€.. He was named in a May 24, 2003 story at major boxing website SecondsOut.com as one of a select group of the world’s “essential†boxing writers – a listing that includes legendary London Times columnist Hugh McIlvanney, Pulitzer Prize/National Book of the Year nominee Thomas Hauser and Fleischer Award winners George Kimball of the Boston Herald and Ron Borges of the Boston Globe. Writer Kenneth Isenberg’s specific reference – “Boxing’s eloquent muck raking insider turned super sleuth†and “a social commentator in boxing letters.â€
Jay operates a company that works within the sports and gaming industries. His organization, Total Action, provides media services, such as content development and specialized marketing, to entities utilizing a web presence in their sports and gaming activities. He is currently working on two books about blackjack, as well as a book about sports betting. He has compiled specialty odds for various online sportsbooks, including Diamond Sportsbook International (DSI), its sister operation, BetCRIS.com, BetUS.com and SuperiorBook.com. He gained notoriety for his odds on various special events, including the Academy Awards, the NFL Draft, and the Super Bowl, for which he posts dozens and dozens of different odds propositions (for entertainment purposes only, of course).
In 2004, Charles Jay made an entry into politics, winning the presidential nomination of the Personal Choice Party. He appeared on the state ballot of Utah with his running mate, adult film legend Marilyn Chambers, and garnered nearly a thousand votes from that state alone, in addition to write-in votes from around the country. He campaigned on a platform that included, among other things, a very strong pro-gambling plank. He took part in the largest multi-party presidential debate in history in October 2004 at East Tennessee State University. In the end, he finished sixth in the presidential balloting in Utah, but placed fourth in the state-wide “mock election†among junior high and high school students, finishing behind only George W. Bush, John Kerry and Ralph Nader and defeating the Green, Libertarian, Socialist and Constitution Party candidates.
Charles is frequently asked to speak at high schools and colleges about his quixotic presidential run, and takes every opportunity to encourage young people to become involved in the political system. With his unanimous nomination by the Personal Choice Party at the 2007 convention, as well as his recent nomination by the fastest growing political party in the nation – the Boston Tea Party – he will continue in that pursuit. Charles Jay is a graduate of the University of Miami (Florida) and currently lives in the South Florida area.

One thing that amazes me is how someone not used to TV coverage can get on a major network without being nervous or shaking up. Is he giving any speeches yet?
They don’t teach public speaking or instill confidence at those concentration camps known as public schools, either, do they?

You were on millionaire?
I would be laughing till the cows came how if Jay got more votes than Barr in Colorado, Florida, or Tennessee. I wouldn’t count on it, though.
Even I did not expect the LP/Barr to have to stoop to riding BTP/Jay coattails this soon!
This may be a first for the BTP. Comment at BAN:

don’t worry, i have all your locations bugged.
Unfortunately, I was getting too much feedback out of the convention room.
What, the puking?
No footage available.
Kids today are into the nasty stuff.
Two girls one cup, et. all
I’ve been looking for that. I gotta see that.
I gave a nationally televised speech on CSPAN, sucka!
Although… When I was done, I went back to my hotel room and threw up. 🙁
That explains it, Paulie. Thanks.
They do, GE. Plus I’m in debate to help that out. But I was in front of a camera once before, a local one, but news nonetheless. Pretty creepy.
Sounds like Jay has plenty of public speaking experience.

We can start getting BTP on state ballots for 2010 and 2012 now if anyone wants to donate.
http://freedomballotaccess.org/
The following states can start before the November election:
Alabama, Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and West Virginia.
We already have a team in place in Alabama.
This also works for LP, CP and other parties.
Several more states can start in November.
Good job, Charles! Awesome publicity for the BTP. Very professional appearance, etc.
I REALLY wish my vote for Jay could be counted in MI.
Anyone know of a transcript?
