Internet Pettition to demand Barr’s participation in debate is being circulated

Recently a petittion was started to ask Bob Barr to participate in the upcoming Free and Equal debate. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Demand_Bob_Barr_Debate/

It remains to be seen if this would in any way sway the Barr campaign, that has consistently been dodging debates since the begining of Bob Barr’s campaign.

Was a fierce Independent because of statements made in George Washington's farewell address about how the party system would damage the nation. (He was right). Became interested in the Libertarian party because of Ron Paul. I helped get Mike Gravel into the LP, and joined the party with him. And contrary to what people have said, we are not going anywhere. We are in the Libertarian party from now on. Get used to it.

    GE & svf,

DON’T HATE, CONGRATULATE. At least someone got some of these candidates together. Why is this like pulling teeth; should they not jump at these opportunities?

Oh, I forgot… Barr is a GOP hack and McKinney is just plain loopy.

    mscrib:

You should watch that mouth of yours.

The only thing I see to be “pathetic” is the malicious arrogance of the Barr campaign that they try to spin as some type of high-mindedness. They think they’re on a high horse when they’re actually neck deep in their own festering shit.

It’s utterly laughable, and anyone who doesn’t realize that by now is either a shill as well, or hasn’t been paying attention.

There will not be millions of people watching, especially as this is only being carried live by C-SPAN 2. C-SPAN (2) junkies already know which candidate they’re going to vote for. I’m skeptical of the “alternative debate” concept to begin with, but this attempt was just pathetic.

  3. svf svf October 23, 2008

make the candidates say they’ll participate as a prerequisite of giving them the nomination.

    that’s an excellent idea.

give it up, folks. at this point a 3rd party debate is a waste of time and resources. if this had been set up months ago with sufficient time, media notice, and planning — sure, why not.

but a hastily whipped together debate shown only on C-SPAN benefits nobody involved at this point. if Free & Equal want to do something productive, they should start planning now for 2012 “alternative” debates.

Agreed. Get something really legit lined up and then make the candidates say they’ll participate as a prerequisite of giving them the nomination.

“The organizers of the canceled forum at Columbia have announced another forum, to take place in Washington, DC, on Thursday, Oct. 23. Despite the organizers’ claims of confirmation by the candidates, Ms. McKinney has not been consulted on her participation in the Thursday forum or on ground rules or other parameters of the event. We’re urging members of the media to regard announcements about the Oct. 23 forum with some caution.”

    Barr’s 2010 GOP campaign slogan:

“More a bitch than a bitch”

Why are there people like AnthonyD that are so damn gullible and naive to believe, let alone respect, anything the Barr campaign has said?

Just as likely, perhaps some shills are around.

McKinney has also indicated that she will not attend, but not as definitively.

There is still a glimmer of hope that Barr will participate.

    Unfortunately, no.

    Statement on tomorrow’s debate
October 22nd, 2008 by Jason Pye

Since this third party debate issue has come back up I wanted to share with readers the letter that Russ Verney sent to the group organizing the event, which can be read here. Keep in mind that we received a notice about this debate on Tuesday by fax. We sent our response later in the day.

The Georgia Tech appearance was scheduled well in advance and has been promoted. We will not cancel that appearance.

It seems as though the organizers want us to drop our plans at their convenience. As Russ wrote in the letter, “I believe this is twice that your organization has made a public announcement regarding an imminent presidential candidate debate without first checking availability of the candidates.”

We have been open to the prospect of the third party debate provided that it was organized with details clearly presented to the campaign and it could not interfere with Bob’s hectic schedule. It seems the organizers are not willing to negotiate before they set the plans.

No disrespect is directed towards the candidates participating in the debate. However, the Barr campaign cannot and will not be held responsible for the lack of planning on the part of others.

Or maybe he wouldn’t listen to the pope, seeing as he has never given a satisfactory answer to whether or not he signed a check to pay for his wife’s abortion.

  12. Catholic Trotskyist Catholic Trotskyist October 23, 2008

I’m sure he would listen to the pope and the soul of Leon Trotsky.

A meaningless petition, Bob Barr doesn’t listen to his (potential) supporters. He doesn’t listen to Ron Paul. On occasion, he doesn’t listen to the LP. He certainly doesn’t listen to reason.

Who does Bob Barr listen to? Russ Verney? (A box of Tic-Tacs could have managed Barr’s campaign better.) Maybe the voices inside his head? We may never really know.

“Great! He needs to. If he wants to be a permanent fixture of the Liberty movement, he’ll need to start getting along.”

    I laughed.

The Catholic Trotskyist Party of America has requested that the pope and the soul of Leon Trotsky pray for Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney to participate in the debate. Amen, so be it.

What a mickey mouse organization Free and Equal is. Here’s a good idea: lets set up a debate and contact the potential debaters 3 days before the date of the debate and tell them to drop everything, cancel their scheduled appearances, and come to our mickey mouse debate.

    What a bunch of dunderheads.

Once again, I still think these moves are far too stupid to be accidental.

    Hey, pop question:

What’s the difference between John McCain and Bob Barr?

John McCain actually followed through on his neocon ambitions to make it to the big time.

Bob Barr couldn’t quite make it… but’s there always that GOP seat in 2010, right Bobby?

  20. Spence Spence October 22, 2008

Snubgate wasn’t even a real “response”. Neither he nor his campaign staff came out and addressed the growing controversy.

Barr no longer has a valid reason for persisting in this, and even though the debate is pretty much a waste of time, it would save some face. But then again, when you’re out to kill the LP…

Go, Barr! At least that’s one thing we can agree on – if for very different reasons.

  21. HumbleTravis HumbleTravis October 22, 2008

Aside from “snubgate”, have they ever responded to concerns about the how the campaign is being run?
