An email from 2008 Libertarian Party presidential nominee Bob Barr:
Below is a message from 2008 Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate Wayne Allyn Root:
Dear Friend,
I would like to ask for your help to save liberty in America … to stop the aggression of a government that grows larger and more intrusive everyday.
America needs a political party that will be a visible advocate for freedom. The principles of the Libertarian Party are the principles this country was founded upon.
The freedom to pursue our hopes and dreams – without interference from government – is what has made our country great and will save us from our current struggles.
Many Americans share our ideals, but our message is not being heard.
This must change!
And that is why I have chosen to run for Chairman of the Libertarian Party.
Please help move the voice of freedom onto the national stage by signing up today to become a delegate at the Libertarian Party National Convention in St. Louis this Memorial Day Weekend.
I am striving to be the hardest working advocate for freedom in Libertarian Party history.
As the only member of the party to regularly appear on national media outlets, I have been working tirelessly to portray a positive image for our party.
In just the past two weeks I have appeared on FOX News, Larry King Live on CNN, MSNBC, and more than 20 radio shows.
But there is so much more to do.
Let’s build our movement to the next level by:
- Training our members on all levels to get the message of liberty out to the American people on a daily basis.
- Developing the kind of branding and marketing that will give our party a successful, professional image.
- Utilizing new technologies like social networks, text messaging and online media.
- Increasing fundraising and showing our candidates how they can bring in the funds they need to compete.
- Developing a presence on campuses nationwide to reach out to America’s youth.
This race for chairman offers a stark contrast of visions for the future of the Libertarian Party.
Shall we be content being a protest movement or debating society while freedom dies?
Or do you agree with me that it’s time for us to take the serious steps of becoming a political party that implements freedom and restores our Republic?
The answer to these questions depends on you. Every vote is important in this race. If you show up and help elect me as Chairman, we will take the first of many steps to restore freedom to America.
With my experience and achievements in both business and media I know we can bring success to the Libertarian Party. But I can’t do it without your help.
Please use the link below . . . sign up to be a delegate to the Libertarian Party National Convention today. Click here.
Only those who attend the convention will be able to vote to bring our party into the debate on what type of America we want to see. Will our children live in freedom or in bondage to a politically-favored class?
The future of freedom depends on our succeeding. And our succeeding depends on your support in St. Louis.
Our Founding Fathers put at risk their lives, fortunes and sacred honor so that we could live in freedom. All that is required of us is to attend this convention and vote to move our party forward.
Please sign up right now . . . before you read another e-mail.
We really need you there, but if you simply can’t make the time to get there, please at least contribute to the campaign. It costs a lot of money to travel around the country and to get the message out to potential delegates.
Please contribute $25, $50, $100 or more. Each donation is welcome.
And while other campaigns have burdensome reporting requirements, there is no contribution limit on campaign donations for LNC Chair and no public disclosure required of individual contributors.
I look forward to seeing you in St Louis and I very much appreciate your support.
P.S. Come to the convention, become a delegate and vote for the future of our party. The early bird pricing ends April 25, so please sign up today at www.gatewaytoliberty.com.
And if you are able to contribute to the campaign, so we can get the message out to more people, please contribute at www.rootforamerica.com.

re: #22 never let go of the shift key early.
It doesn’t read like Barr his endorsing Root per se. More like just agreed to rent Root his mailing li$t.
It’s presumptuous to imply that the only reason one would oppose Root for Chair is that one had never talked to him. He’s been around the party for a few years now and campaigned for VP and Chair. I think most people with an interest in internal party politics have talked to him, and know that many of the people opposed to his Chair bid have talked to him at length.

re; 321 I have emailed him a couple of times and never received a reply. Now what do you suggest I do next?
How many of you guys that don’t like Root, have actually sat down with him– one on one?
Get away from the cameras and lights. OK, someone step up and say they really know Wayne.
This is another reason I appreciate TR. One can hardly say he was not macho.
Good. I’d rather have fusion than castration.
But if she is actually a leftist tht will not work.
She’s not actually a leftist.
Just did, on another thread. Here it is again:
For your reading pleasure, http://www.libertarianrepublican.net/2010/04/german-greens-men-need-no-longer-be.html
The main thesis appears to be that Greens seeks to make men less like the (character portrayed by) TV wrestler Randy “Macho Man” Savage, and are thus a grave danger to the manhood of manly men everywhere. The article concludes with a dire warning about a conspiracy by anti-macho Greens to infiltrate and castrate the Libertarian Party. This conspiracy is, according to Mr. Dondero, apparently headed by Mr. Milnes and Ms. Tobin:
quoting in part:
Note – Greens have infiltrated the Libertarian Party in the past. New Jersey Green activist Robert Milnes, a frequent commenter at Independent Political Report, has been pushing for a Green-Libertarian alliance for years. He even briefly declared for the Libertarian Presidential nomination in 2008. At present, in California, prominent Ralph Nader former campaign staffer Christina Tobin is seeking the Libertarian nomination for Sec. of State.
paulie, I can’t find the article. Can you type the link?
Interesting. I have considered asking Tobin to be vp on my proposed fusion Independent. But if she is actually a leftist tht will not work.
“He is just the epitome of a crooked used car salesman.”
He’s more like those late-night hucksters on TV infomercials promoting their latest DVD on how-to-get-rich-quick-in-real-estate.
Not so. In a recent article at LR (I can’t link it, because this library computer considers LR to be inappropriate for children, as well as anyone who either doesn’t own their own computer, or stays in a crappy motel whose wi-fi does not extend to all the rooms),
ED pays Milnes the great honor of considering him among the two leading leftists infiltrating the LP, along with Christina Tobin. Dondero thinks this allegedly Milnes-Tobin led takeover attempt is a serious threat to the LP, incidentally. ROFL
E.D., ungrateful! I’m one of few here who say something positive about you once in a while.
No thing. When my inheritance comes, I’ll have pussy-Imean pizza-galore!
Nicolas, could happen, esp. now that the alien baby has sprung out of its stomach. BTP.
As a long time libertarian my hope is that LP will implode as quickly as possible. Then the unprincipled opportunists will find other venues for self-aggrandizement and the very term “libertarian” will not continue to be sullied.
No Pizzas for you Milnes. Only stale cardboard tasting cheese-less discarded leftovers.
Oh, and if you’re real good, maybe we’ll let you lick the box.
The lesson from Obama’s election is whoever can steal-I mean get-the progressive vote, will win. A fool and his vote are soon parted.
NewFed,
I think Hinkle might be someone you should look into. I think Phillies would actually be good for the LP, though, as he emphasizes spending money correctly.
I agree with E.D. More pizzas!
Perhaps a better choice of words would have been a huckster instead of flashy. He is just the epitome of a crooked used car salesman.
You can be pro or anti Root. What I don’t understand is why in the bloody hell would someone be opposed to “flashy”? My gosh man. That’s PRECISELY what we need more of in the Libertarian Party, Libertarian Republican, and entire libertarian movement.
Our movement is infested with Dweebiness. Pointy-headed intellectualism that’s as boring as white toast.
Didn’t we learn anything from Obama’s election? Cool wins! The more hip, the more celebrity, the more media savvy one is, the more they have a chance of winning.
Give us more flashy! More pizzaz. More excitement!
I am against Bob Barr. I am against Wayne Root. I am against Barr endorsing Root. If you want the rightists to continue to usurp libertarian wherewithall to CPAC & GOP then support Barr & Root. If you want the LP to have its own autonomy & start to win elections, support Phillies slate & radicals.
I wish I felt comfortable with Root but I just don’t. I am not sure who I would want for chair but it isn’t Root nor is it Phillies. One is just too flashy and the other is just too abrasive. Both fail to provide the leadership needed for the party to progress. Having said that, I am not sure it is even possible for the party to progress but it is the best alternative out there.
Go Wayne Go! Meet you in St. Louis!
