Wayne Allyn Root’s Commentary: Obama Might Be a Socialist

ROOT: Obama might be a socialist

For some reason, most Americans think he is

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/apr/4/obama-might-be-a-socialist/

I ought to know. I was Mr. Obama’s college classmate at Columbia University Class of ‘83. Our college was dominated by socialists and Marxists who hated capitalism and America. Let’s look at the facts up close and personal – Jeff Foxworthy style. Mr. Foxworthy leaves no doubt as to “who might be a redneck.” Let me leave no doubt that “Obama might be a socialist.”

If you believe it’s greedy for American taxpayers to want to keep more of their own money, but not greedy to demand that government confiscate other people’s money and redistribute it to those who didn’t earn it, you might be a socialist.

Wayne Allyn Root is a former Libertarian vice-presidential nominee and author of “The Conscience of a Libertarian: Empowering the Citizen Revolution with God, Guns, Gold, Gambling & Tax Cuts” (Wiley, 2009). He writes at RootforAmerica.com.

    Gee, Mikey, let me think?

Hmmm… Wayne was a major contender last time for the LP Prezzie Nom.

Wayne is on the LNC with the highest vote percentage of anyone that ran for Office at the Convention he was elected at.

Wayne is the number one PR ‘getter’ for the LP, getting more LP exposure than EVERY OTHER LP Member combined.

So, all I have to say to you, Mikey, is:
    WHATEVER!

  2. Michael H. Wilson

Gee Brucey I was one of the highest vote getter in the LP in the 1980s. I’ve been an officer in state and local parties for some 20 or more years.

If I wrote a piece that said nothing about what Libertarians would do but criticized someone would that merit publication here?

Let’s see what kind of votes we get okay?

  3. Is Root a Socialist?

I have asked Wayne Root about this seven different times here on IPR

    Using things like facts.

Mr Root has not answered and obviously will not.

I have no intentions of repeating the same question again for the eigth time. Mr Root is no longer credible.

Wayne Root is a discredit to the Libertarian Party.

    IMHO

He never answers my questions either, Michael, even when I ask nicely. I have to assume that he’ll ignore many of the questions he’ll be asked if he’s our presidential candidate, so there’s reason # 183 not to give him that opportunity.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Jim Duensing for President

Obama the socialist sees nothing wrong with secret Stalin show trials

Libertarian Presidential Candidate Jim Duensing Calls on the Obama
Administration to Defeat the Republicans in Congress by releasing KSM from
Gitmo so he can be tried by a Fully Informed Jury.

Yesterday, the Obama Administration reversed itself on the issue of bringing the terrorists to justice.

During the campaign, Obama talked about closing Gitmo and ending the practice of torture. His base and the rank and file members of his party were excited about ending the torture of the Bush / Cheney years. But as soon as he was elected to office, he covered up the destruction of torture tapes from the cia.

Now, Eric Holder, Obama’s Attorney General is blaming Congressional Republicans for – Holder’s decision – to try certain alleged terrorists in a military tribunal where the American people will be unable to witness
    the events or the evidence.

In December of 2009, Holder publicly expressed his intention to try KSM and other alleged terrorists in New York. That indictment, which has now been withdrawn, has also now been unsealed. It charges KSM with being the
“plot’s operational leader”, but does not allege any actions by KSM on the actual date of the attacks. The indictment leaves it unclear what exactly KSM is alleged to have done on the day of the attack.

A public trial could have cleared that up. We won’t have that now. Thanks to a cowardly Attorney General who once called the entire nation cowards. Guess it takes one to know one.

Holder’s excuse: Congressional Republicans have removed allocations of money in the federal budget to pay to transport prisoners from the torture facility at Guantanamo Bay Cuba to America for trial.

In this way, the Congressional Republicans are showing themselves to be weak on terror.

Budgets are about priorities. How many more things should be more important to the United States Congress than preventing another 9/11?

Eric Holder said this in his press conference to announce that he had decided to remove the case from a real court:

“Unfortunately, since I made that decision, Members of Congress have intervened and imposed restrictions blocking the administration from bringing any Guantanamo detainees to trial in the United States,
regardless of the venue. As the President has said, those unwise and unwarranted restrictions undermine our counterterrorism efforts and could harm our national security. Decisions about who, where and how to prosecute have always been – and must remain – the responsibility of the executive branch. Members of Congress simply do not have access to the
evidence and other information necessary to make prosecution judgments. Yet they have taken one of the nation’s most tested counterterrorism tools off the table and tied our hands in a way that could have serious
ramifications. We will continue to seek to repeal those restrictions.”

If Eric Holder is sincere in his position that the trials should be held in New York, than he should not be so much of a coward in the face of
Republican opposition. He should call on his President to release KSM from Gitmo so that there would be money in the budget to transport him to trial.

KSM and any other alleged terrorists, must be brought to trial according to our Constitution – or the terrorists will have won. Our Constitution
does not just apply in simple easy times. All persons charged with any crime in America have an absolute right to a full, fair, public, and
speedy trial in front of a fully informed jury. This is as bedrock a principle of American justice as there is.

Ask John Hancock, William Penn, or William Mead.

It is simply not an issue that merits any serious discussion. Secret Military Tribunals are for Stalinist Russia not Modern America. And, they
are part and parcel of what is wrong with Socialism.

Since Eric Holder lacks the courage to stand up to the Republican House’s political maneuvering, he has shown he lacks the character required to be Attorney General. He should resign or be replaced by a more courageous Attorney General with the courage of his convictions and a healthy respect
for the traditional American rights protected by our Constitution and secured by generations of American Fighting Men.

The Obama Administration should use this as an opportunity to keep one of its campaign promises. It should close the torture facility at Gitmo, not start holding secret trials there.

Mr. Obama, like his Democratic predecessor Mr Clinton, has shown he is a capitalist at heart. He has done wonderful things for the stock market, the opposite of the Republican between them. And the job loss rate that went up, up, up under Bush is going down down down under Obama, in fact, unemployment is falling not the the Republican second depression for the nonce has ended.

On the bright side, this week Mr. Root asserts that Mr. Obama attended Columbia.

  10. whatever

Perhaps Mr. Phillies should support a Democrat/Libertarian Obama fusion ticket since he is so taken with Obama’s phony statistics and all the wonderful things he has done.

  11. George Phillies

    @13

Reality denial will continue to serve cosnervatives poorly, which is excellent news for Libertarians, since it brings all the sooner that a majority Americans reject conservative nutcakes like evolution denier Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck thinks the theory of evolution is a bunch of monkey business.

The wildly popular Fox News host Wednesday called the idea that humans evolved from primates

    “ridiculous.”

While the deeply religious Beck denouncing evolution isn’t a shock, his defense was a head-scratcher: “I haven’t seen a half-monkey, half-person yet. Did evolution just stop?”

  12. Schrodinger's Root

Phillies: “On the bright side, this week Mr. Root asserts that Mr. Obama attended Columbia.”

Root has always asserted that he was Obama’s classmate at Columbia, even as he simultaneously implied that Obama never attended Columbia.

Root not only flips flops on issues, he sometimes assumes all positions simultaneously, much like Schrodinger’s cat.

It is only when an Observer opens the box that Root’s political position solidifies, depending on the Observer’s state of mind (i.e., is the Observer a Radical Libertarian, a Liberventionist, a Tea Party conservative, pro-gay marriage, pro-state rights on gay marriage, pro-Afghan War, anti-Afghan war, pro-Mubarik, anti-Mubarik, etc.)

  13. Michael H. Wilson

Wayne writes; If want to lower the cost of health care but left out tort reform, you might be a socialist lawyer.

A 2004 study by the group Health Grades suggest that 195,000 people die each year in American hospitals because of preventable errors.

Wayne given that the medical establishment has done little to fix this problem and you want some form of tort reform how do you suggest we deal with the problem of those who die from preventable errors? Who do we hold accountable and how do we go about it? Do you want to arrest the MDs and hold them for trial on murder charges?

  14. Tom Blanton

Michael, you have to understand how the right-wing indoctrinates its cult members:

    pro-business = good
    anti-business = bad
suing doctor or hospital = anti-business
therefore suing doctor or hospital is bad

the inverse applies to the left:

    pro-business = bad
    anti-business = good
suing doctor or hospital = anti-business = good

So, your example will probably not compute with Wayne as he will view this as liberal talk. That preventable error is an issue that affects individuals and the reality that free markets are pro-individual are things that right-wingers have trouble comprehending.

This is why many “conservatives” don’t mind corporate welfare but go crazy about welfare to poor people.

    pro-business = good
    corporate welfare = pro-business = good

The idea that corporate welfare distorts markets does not compute to a right-winger.

I believe talk radio’s most prominent Reagan Libertarian is a right-winger by virtue of DNA encoding along with the internalization of every GOP talking point ever conceived.

  15. whatever

    To Phillies,

    govt statistics = truth

This is a false equation. The Labor Department has been jigging the numbers for decades. It’s transparent and at least one former bureaucrat has spoken out about it.

  16. From my view

When did Root say Obama NEVER attended Columbia? He has said many times that he never saw Obama in class, never saw him at graduation, and nobody he knew at COlumbia ever saw Obama at Columbia. It brings up the question of course.

  17. JT

Phillies: “Mr. Obama, like his Democratic predecessor Mr Clinton, has shown he is a capitalist at heart. He has done wonderful things for the stock market, the opposite of the Republican between them. And the job loss rate that went up, up, up under Bush is going down down down under Obama, in fact, unemployment is falling not the the Republican second depression for the nonce has ended.”

Post hoc ergo hoc. What has Obama done that makes you think he has spearheaded economic improvement?

Moreover, I don’t think unemployment falling to 9 percent is anything to crow about.

  18. whatever

@21 – conspiratorial talk about Obama’s past just make him sound like a nut.

61 percent of independents have doubts about Obama’s proffered life story. This is the one thing Root is doing right, though it’s very inconsistent and he usually can’t be bothered to.

Being among the most credulous 39% who believe statist lies isn’t going to help the LP. Let the Dems and the Republicans work on the easily-bamboozled vote; the LP should be working on the skeptics. Non-skeptics and dupes should probably remove themselves from the independent movement and join the duopoly.

  19. Schrodinger's Root

@ 20: When did Root say Obama NEVER attended Columbia?

When did anyone SAY that Root SAID that Obama never attended Columbia?

I said that Root IMPLIED that Obama never attended Columbia.

@ 20: He has said many times that he never saw Obama in class, never saw him at graduation, and nobody he knew at COlumbia ever saw Obama at Columbia. It brings up the question of course.

Yes, of course it brings up the question. IOW, Root IMPLIED that Obama never attended Columbia.

Certainly, Root is too slippery, too Clintonesque, to SAY when he can instead IMPLY. Root puts the idea out there, with enough wiggle room to pull back if his insinuation looks about to blow up in his face.

  20. JT

Post 26 is right. What would be the point of Root saying those things repeatedly if not to raise suspicion by implying that Obama wasn’t at Columbia?

  21. Tom Blanton

I can’t recall Obama ever saying that he saw Wayne Root at Columbia. This raises the question of whether Root actually attended classes there. Did he hire a ringer to act as a stand-in there?

And what is Root hiding by not producing his birth certificate? Is Wayne Newton Root’s actual father?

    Was Root born in Israel?

    Is he a secret Mormon?

    Is he a secret corporatist?

  22. whatever

I can’t recall Obama ever saying that he saw Wayne Root at Columbia.

Interesting, you are coming from a standpoint assuming that Obama is a truthteller. Are you a Democrat? You certainly aren’t a libertarian. Keep in mind Obama only took classes at Columbia for nine months (his claim in DREAMS that he was there for two years now having been proved false), so he probably didn’t see many people.

what is Root hiding by not producing his birth certificate?

All persons seeking the LP nomination should produce their birth records, as well as any birth or naturalization records for their parents, to the LNC.

    Is he a secret corporatist?

    Ain’t no secret about it..

  23. Thomas L. Knapp

    whatever@29,

“Keep in mind Obama only took classes at Columbia for nine months (his claim in DREAMS that he was there for two years now having been proved false)”

Orly Taitz running a commercial records search and only getting a hit on one year instead of two for Obama at Columbia is not “proof” of anything, and it’s only “evidence” of one thing (that he was there in at least one year).

  24. Michael H. Wilson

I think if we can prove Obama was born in Kenya that will automatically bring all the troops home from abroad and end the pesky wars the U.S. is involved, abolish the Fed and return us to the gold standard. So we should get crackin’.

  25. Deran

@28 Lol, well put. And even though I am not a libertarian capitalist, I have voted LP on occaision, and I have to agree. All the Conspiracy stuff looks wacko, wether it’s from the Left or Right. And it makes the candidates too easy for the main stream media to sideline away from issue discussions. imo

  26. whatever

@32, Harvard Law Review is different than your standard law school’s. Barry was the “President” of the Harvard Law Review (not “editor”), a position one is elected to by classmates. It is not a merit selection based on writing ability. It is a popularity contest he won by smooth-talking his classmates and being an “historic first.”

There are also several “editors” who are selected for Law Review staff on merit, but Barry was not one of them.

    Hope this helps.

  27. Schrodinger's Root

whatever: “There are also several “editors” who are selected for Law Review staff on merit, but Barry was not one of them.”

Obama was elected by people who knew him.

Root often BRAGS that his Columbia classmates elected him to be their reunion class speaker (or some such trivial position).

If Root can claim bragging rights to winning a popularity contest, then I suppose Obama is entitled to the same bragging rights.

  28. whatever

@37 — Why do you hate America so much you call the Constitution a “misdirection”? It is an important national security measure to keep power out the hands of dangerous communist Brits such as Barry. You should consider defecting to Communist China or the City of London, you may be more comfortable there.

@39 – If you are saying Root is fraudulent in a manner similar to Oama, you may have a good case.

  29. JT

Deran: “All the Conspiracy stuff looks wacko, wether it’s from the Left or Right. And it makes the candidates too easy for the main stream media to sideline away from issue discussions. imo”

I couldn’t agree more with that. I want Libertarian candidates focusing on wasteful and harmful government policies (of which there are many). I don’t want them to help the media and other candidates redirect attention away from the reality of those policies and libertarian alternatives.

  30. Michael H. Wilson

Whatever do you get your exercise by jumping to conclusions? I think it was Mark Twain who said something like “I love my country all the time and my government when it deserves it.” As for me the Constitution has its flaws. I for one don’t believe in regulating commerce.

All this misdirection as to where Obama was born is just that, but then a lot of people are making money and getting the attention they desire off of this and other related issues.

As for me I’ll be out collecting signatures for a petition today, tomorrow I’ll drive about 100 miles to meet with some others and discuss some plans and Monday I’ll be out collecting more signatures.

What are going to do for the cause?

  31. whatever

I might meet with some state lege and work to make sure we have no more foreigners on the Presidential ballot. Hopefully you’re not gathering signatures for communist Brits…
