Wrights campaign will produce Libertarian commercials

BURNET, Texas (June 14) – The Lee Wrights for President Campaign announced today a special initiative to produce video commercials for Libertarian candidates and affiliates in 2012.

“We want to help Libertarian candidates and local organizations spread the libertarian message in the 2012 election,” said Thomas Hill, Wrights campaign manager. Production cost for each commercial is about $1,000. Each 30-60 second spot produced will include a 10-second segment where local candidates and affiliates can include their own name and message.

“Our goal is to produce as many commercials as we can, possibly 5-10, and make each one available free of charge to local candidates and affiliates,” said. Each commercial will focus on a single topic but all the spots will emphasize a principled libertarian position, Hill said.

The Wrights campaign has started a special fund raising effort to raise funds specifically for this project. They already have one donor who has made a significant pledge and also offered to match the first ten people who donate $50 to the project before 7 p.m. EST June 16.

Doug Craig, a Georgia Libertarian, will produce the commercials. Hill said that the amount of money raised will determine the number of commercials they can produce.

Donations can be made online via Paypal at Wrights2012.com. To designate your contribution to this project, write in “Libertarian commercials” in either address line.

To that end he has pledged that 10 percent of all donations to his campaign will be spent for ballot access so that the stop all war message can be heard in all 50 states. Wrights is a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party and co-founder and editor of of the free speech online magazine Liberty For All. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., he now lives and works in Texas.

This is REALLY good news! I had a similar idea several years back, but couldn’t gather enough support to get it off the ground. I hope you’ll do something similar for radio ads, too.

One advantage we have now is that with online video, the ads can be effective even before a candidate raises enough funds for broadcast.

I still remember the Ed Clark ads. They REALLY made a difference in our image, and lack of advertising has hurt our party in the meantime. For us to convince people to give us their votes (and their dollars, and volunteer time) we have to stand right next to our competition in the marketplace. This project will help make that happen.

    Kudos to everyone involved!

We look forward to sharing our videos with LP candidates and affiliates. Having volunteer producers and editors help us keep production costs low so we can have more money to purchase air time. For example, we can run 30 second ads on CNN (prime time) in Atlanta for less than $30 a spot. We intend to air these ads in markets, large and small, across the country.

I’m glad to see this and don’t want to come off negative in anyway. I do have some questions and comments.

The pros will tell you a thirty second spot is 72 words (no more, no less if you want it to sound correctly, not too fast or too slow and you get your moneys worth). With the McCain/Feingold rule: “I’m Lee Wrights and I approve this message” you have used up ten percent of your message. Would the local candidate have to say this too? An ad must have “donations are not tax deductible” either written or said also. You need to check with the FEC or you could be fined. They LOVE to fine third party and Independents to “set examples”.I just don’t know how this will work with others included.

All LP campaigns definitely need to take advantage of YouTube commercials for certain! They should stick to the 72 words for 30 seconds and/or 140-142 for 60 seconds and follow FEC rules to the T and who knows someone may finance you on a local station and/or cable ! If they are good, people WILL donate to help you.

I hope many who are able will jump in and help Mr. Wrights out . Building the Party at the LOCAL levels ,through all LP campaigns, should be all of our goals from now UNTIL…

Good TV ads ran regularly INCREASES vote totals and overall support. A PROVEN Fact !!!

I love some of Irvine’s ads. Some aren’t so good, however he ENJOYED the experience as anyone should who runs. Sure we want to win elections but we also want to introduce new people to the LP and ENERGIZE the old hands. Build at the local levels.

In these times of serious economic trouble for so many we definitely should run to win, and if you set a new LP record for vote totals and percentage of votes for your particular race in a losing effort, you have been very SUCCESSFUL and truly helped the cause !
