Today, a PAC headed by former Libertarian Party Chairman Ed Crane announced that it plans to make “a significant ad buy” to promote Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis for governor of Virginia.

According to Crane, “[Republican] Ken Cuccinelli is a socially intolerant, hard-right conservative with little respect for civil liberties. [Democrat] Terry McAuliffe is a big government liberal with little respect for economic liberties.”

Crane notes that, according to a Zogby poll, 59 percent of Virginians view themselves as purple — both fiscally conservative and socially tolerant.

“Fortunately, Robert Sarvis offers an alternative, an agenda grounded in free markets and social tolerance,” Crane said.

The ad will run throughout Virginia from Oct. 24 through the end of the election.Uncovered Politics reports that the Purple PAC raised $575,000 as of their last filing with the Federal Election Commission in June.

“In the last year, we’ve been seeing more PACs speaking out in favor of Libertarian campaigns,” said Geoffrey J. Neale, chair of the LP.

In 2012, Libertarian Action Super PAC (LASPAC) raised $167,798 and the Freedom and Liberty PAC raised $500,000 to promote the campaign of Libertarian presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson.

Great news. This will be a big boost for the Sarvis campaign. Thank you to Purple PAC, Ed Crane and the PAC’s donors for their interest and genorosity.

Nice to see Crane in the mix. Maybe he can get some of the monied Ls supporting non-fringe L candidates in such a manner that the fringe factor in the LP will become a minor nuisance at most. Resources can make a lot of dysfunctions melt away….

It’s good to see some money supporting Sarvis, but would have been better to have those ads earlier on in the cycle, i.e. before the debates.

It is good to see Ed Crane backing a Libertarian Party candidate. This might be fallout from the move by David Koch to remove Crane as President of Cato Institute.

In resisting the move by Koch and his allies, Crane indicated he did not want Cato to become an adjunct of the Republican Party.

I saw this ad on TV during one of the World Series games last week, what perfect timing!
