Today, a PAC headed by former Libertarian Party Chairman Ed Crane announced that it plans to make “a significant ad buy” to promote Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis for governor of Virginia.
According to Crane, “[Republican] Ken Cuccinelli is a socially intolerant, hard-right conservative with little respect for civil liberties. [Democrat] Terry McAuliffe is a big government liberal with little respect for economic liberties.”
Crane notes that, according to a Zogby poll, 59 percent of Virginians view themselves as purple — both fiscally conservative and socially tolerant.
“Fortunately, Robert Sarvis offers an alternative, an agenda grounded in free markets and social tolerance,” Crane said.
The ad will run throughout Virginia from Oct. 24 through the end of the election.Uncovered Politics reports that the Purple PAC raised $575,000 as of their last filing with the Federal Election Commission in June.
“In the last year, we’ve been seeing more PACs speaking out in favor of Libertarian campaigns,” said Geoffrey J. Neale, chair of the LP.
In 2012, Libertarian Action Super PAC (LASPAC) raised $167,798 and the Freedom and Liberty PAC raised $500,000 to promote the campaign of Libertarian presidential candidate Gov. Gary Johnson.
