Happy New Year’s, let make 2015 a huge year for Libertarians!
With a new year starts new branding. LPNevada has decided to redesign our logo. While on the LNC I tried to get the board to explore other options without success. I have spoke to a few states who are interested in updating their logo as well. The logo we ultimately select will not be specific to Nevada and will be able to be used in all states, as well as National should they adopt it.
We are using a platform called 99Designs.com. The cost is $499 + some enhancements so the total cost is just under $550.00.
If any of you have talented designers they can win the prize ($499) if we select the design. In the interim, here is the design brief:

In addition, Mr. Vohra, if you would like to share this link with the social media/graphic design team, I would appreciate it.
Lastly, if any of you would like to be involved I will add you as a viewer so you can see the designs and help by providing comments.
Thanks!

And:
It has been brought to my attention that National intends on having a 99Designs.com contest for a new logo as well.
In lieu of doing 2 contests why don’t we just use this contest?
Our cost thus far is $518.00, there are incentives we can give to get new designers to participate in the contest or upgrade our current contest.
Would National be interested in participating in this and working together? Nick, Arvin?
I can easily change the design brief to reflect the National Party and add additional ideas you may have.
Upgrades Available:
$79.00 – Featured Contest
$19.00 – Designer Blog Promo
$99.00 – Tweet to their communityIn addition, we can add a cash bonus, this will also attract more (better) designers.
Yesterday I extended our contest by 4 days so if we want to do this we should do it sooner rather than later.
The reason we started this contest is because we couldnt wait anymore. We are going to start development for our new website, drafting our 2014 annual report, creating a bunch of new merchandise, envelopes and letterhead as well as bumper stickers. Everything is on hold until we determine our new logo, colors etc.
The goal is to provide a professional logo for the whole party should states and National want to adopt it.
Please let me know who wants to get involved. At this time we have 27 designs submitted and I have eliminated a few additional designs.

> Hi Brett, Brett Pojunis replied: Hi Arvin, Happy New Years. So what is the process? The LNC will select a new logo at a meeting? Can this be done via mail vote? My goal is to get us on the same page, not have Nevada and a few other states go off on own. You and I have shared the same feelings about our branding, it sucks and we need this. Our timeline is accelerated, but I would like to see if we can get consensus on the logo. How about this, regardless of whether or not National adopts (or has to wait to adopt) the logo selected by this contest, have your committee (and LNC) participate in this contest. It is already paid for and there are a few really good designs thus far. In addition, if we select a logo for Nevada and a few other states, then National does something completely different then one of us will be wasting time and money. National doesn’t have any money to waste, I wouldn’t have to see another staff member go! Once we start to get close, we will select the final designers. Then we have a few days to go back and forth and finally we will select our logo. I am willing to do the leg work to ensure that the members of the LNC and the committee have all the information. I will facilitate a webex where we can have a group go over the final logos. If we can agree on a direction then we can all get on the same page and through a email ballot or at your next LNC meeting the LNC can adopt the logo. Meanwhile, we hit our timelines. On a side note, Norm [Olsen] didn’t hit Reply All, here was his comment (I don’t think this was a private comment): I’m amenable to participating in this effort. Going to well (99Designs) twice for the same product seems a bit silly, if not downright embarrassing. Please let me know your thoughts, 2 contests are definitely a waste. Best, Brett H. Pojunis From the draft minutes of last month’s LNC meeting: BRANDING/LP LOGO REDESIGN Mr. Bittner led a discussion regarding potentially changing our logo. He suggested we had 5 basic options for proceeding: Crowd-source a design using a site like www.99Designs.com Go to a graphic designer with an idea of what we want and ask for options Use our DesignForLiberty group, some of whom have proposed logos they’d like to submit We have people who have done graphic work on spec just for the opportunity to be considered No action Mr. Goldstein noted that if we’re going to change our logo, the IT committee should work that into any website redesign efforts they might undertake. The LNC generally discussed opinions of our current logo, known alternatives, potential processes for making a decision, the cost impact on state affiliates who have Mr. Goldstein moved that the Chair appoint a committee of 3 LNC members or alternates to solicit new logo designs and report back to the LNC no later than 3/1/2015. Following debate, the motion was adopted without objection. (Post-adjournment note: On 12/18/14, Mr. Sarwark announced that he had appointed Brett Bittner, Norm Olsen, and Arvin Vohra to the Logo Committee.)

based theirstate logos on the national logo, etc.

I’ll message Matt Hasty. He’s trying to keep the group from getting spammed out and getting used by people to get ideas for outside projects without contributing. I’ll ask him to add you though.
My graphics have appeared many times on the LP Facebook page. I already have. This seems like a closed process.
Are you interested in actively helping with design or design ideas?
You do have to be a member to see that discussion. I sent a request at least a week ago but have not been approved.
Good discussion of this at the Design for Liberty group. You may have to be a member to be able to see it.

Because the LP loves to waste money on logos & buildings instead of spending their money promoting candidates & activism work.”
Yes, and even when it comes to promoting candidates and activism work, a large percentage of the money paid out by the LP goes to line the pockets of people who are not even libertarians.
The LP has spent lots of money on ballot access drives over the years where little to no signatures were collected by Libertarians. There is little to no effort put into finding actual Libertarians to do this work, and I could even cite examples where there were Libertarians who were available to do the work, but they were prevented from working so that non-libertarian mercenaries (some of whom could best be described as jabronies) could do the work. Examples: Oklahoma in 2011-2012 (drive started in 2011) and Pennsylvania in 2012. The people who go out and do ballot access work for the Libertarian Party are basically the only field representatives that the Libertarian Party has, as in they are the ones who go out and talk to the public about the party and philosophy. Sending people out who do not really believe in the philosophy, and in a lot of cases do not really know anything about the party or philosophy, is not an effective way of doing things. I have been blowing the whistle about this for several years now, yet nobody in the party does anything about it.
The redesign makes sense. Jumping the gun when national is about to anyway, less so.
Wow. What an impressive waste of time, energy and money.
Last year’s discussion on this: https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2014/01/libertarian-party-working-on-redesigning-logo/
National has a new look with some frequency. Progress has not been forward, especially for people who want to print the thing locally.
I always thought state parties could do what they chose when it came to the ballot vignette they use. Whether is be the Statue of Liberty or the Liberty Bell or a porcupine, penguin or something else. Many southern states before the Civil Rights era used the bantam rooster rather than the traditional donkey/jackass as the Democratic party’s symbol. Whatever happened to the “Libersign”?
I like the idea of a contest. But, it makes no sense at all for states to do something independent of national. Any LP group that is using something that does not reflect the national look is being foolish. LPUS is slow to get things done. But, we’ll all just have to wait for them, lest we waste our scarce funds.

My design (not really): http://oi58.tinypic.com/6ypfnd.jpg
Ben Requena already came up with a great logo design. Why are we spending this money?
