Press release from LPWI:
On April 25, members of the state’s third-largest and fastest-growing political party will be gathering for their annual convention at Olympia Hotel & Resort in Oconomowoc. Just under a quarter million votes were cast for Wisconsin’s eleven Libertarian candidates in 2014, including a record-breaking 26.4% of the vote in one state senate race, and three statewide candidates meeting the vote test to earn the party recognized ballot status in Wisconsin. That’s something Wisconsin’s Libertarians hope to continue to build on with candidates for US Senate, House, State Legislature, and a range of county and local offices in 2016.
The 2015 annual Libertarian convention also serves a chance for advocates of smaller government and personal freedom to socialize and network for the year ahead. Outgoing party chair Paul Ehlers says all are welcome, with the theme of the convention being “Moving Liberty Forward.” In addition to the election of new party officers, the crowd of smaller-government advocates will also hear from a lineup of guest speakers and candidates, including:
-Terry Brown, Vice-President of School Choice Wisconsin and former President of Saint Anthony School of Milwaukee, the largest Catholic grade school in the nation and the largest voucher school in Wisconsin
-Issac Orr, Research Fellow at the Heartland Institute specializing in environmental regulation, natural resources, and agricultural freedom issues.
-Yuri Malstev, Professor of Economics at Carthage College, economic adviser to Mikhail Gorbachev who defected in 1989
-Andy Craig, State Director of Our America Initiative, 2014 nominee for Secretary of State, and 2016 candidate for US House in Wisconsin’s 4th District (Milwaukee)
-Keynote Speaker Dr. Marc Allan Feldman, Head of Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic, two-time Libertarian candidate for statewide office in Ohio, and 2016 candidate seeking the Libertarian nomination for President of the United States running under the campaign slogan “Votes Not For Sale”
More information, including ticket reservations, can be found at www.lpwi.org. Membership in the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin is not required to attend, and interested members of the public are encouraged to participate. The business meeting and election of new officers and state party committee will begin at 9:30 and continue until a lunch break at 11:00. Speakers will address the convention from 1:00 to 6:00pm, followed by an optional dinner.
