Richard Winger at Ballot Access News reports today:
The September 14 New York Times print edition contains a full-page ad from the Gary Johnson-Bill Weld presidential campaign, subtitled, “An Open Letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates.” It points out that polls show 62% of the public want the Libertarian ticket in the debates.
Ron Nielsen, campaign manager for Johnson/Weld, has a column in today’s Los Angeles Times in favor of including Governor Johnson in the debate http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-nielson-gary-johnson-debate-20160913-snap-story.html
I think there is at least pressure on the CPD to do the right thing. We shall see.
I think that the BEST argument is that Perot was at 8 or 9 when he was included in 1992. It doesn’t matter where he was in the polls a few months prior. When the Debates were set, he was around 9%.
Perot re-entered the 1992 race on October 1, 1992. The first poll taken after that had him at 7%.
…. even better . . .
They need to run this ad in the hometown newspaper of every member of the CPD board, and in the newspaper of every city where a CPD sponsor has their headquarters (such as St. Louis for Anheuser-Busch).
I think they should include them because it is the right thing to do. Not because of lawsuits or boycotts or anything else like that.
DO IT BECAUSE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE COUNTRY AND OUR DEMOCRACY!!
We certainly need to hear an alternative to Clinton and Trump in the debates.
CBS News is reporting on a protest by Stein supporters outside of the CPD offices . . .
