    Gene,

    100% correct.

    However, if you speak the word “liberal” around Woods and his paleo ilk, they break out in hives. That’s what bothers them most about the phrase.

    I agree of course that libertarians are not “wannabe liberals” or “wannabe conservatives.” But analogies are often useful in explaining unfamiliar concepts. Saying we are economic conservatives and social liberals is an attempt to explain something to people in an easy to understand manner, by referencing categories with which they are familiar. It is an attempt to explain, not a means of defining and delimiting the libertarian philosophy.

    This is the speech Tom Woods gave at the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando last year. I don’t think that it was posted here as an article before, so, I’m posting it here now.

    Great speech. Unfortunately, not enough delegates heeded his words.
