Alabama Libertarians Executive Committee for the March 2019 – March 2020 period, elected at Convention on March 23rd:
Chair: Laura Chancey Lane
Vice Chair: Elijah Boyd
Secretary: Paul Frankel
Treasurer: Scott Hammond
Region 1: Noah Oliver Rhys
Region 2: Scott Neighbours
Region 3: Ash Jennings
Region 4: Anthony Peebles
At Large: Richard Fast
At Large: Frank Dillman Sr.
The chair, treasurer, all four region reps and one of the At Large reps (Richard Fast) continued in their positions, but this is the first full term for Fast as he was appointed by the committee to fill a vacancy partway through the previous term. The Vice Chair, Secretary and the other At Large position were filled with new people. I (Frankel) was previously on the LPA exec comm as an At Large and Region rep in several separate stints between 1998 and approximately 2011. The other two new people on the committee, Boyd and Dillman, have been LPA activists and candidates for public office but have not previously served on LPA Exec Comm.
Several bylaws proposals were considered with some adopted, some amended and some rejected. The new bylaws are not on the website yet but I have a draft copy in an email and can forward it to those who inquire at [email protected] which currently forwards to my gmail address.
The convention heard from speakers/presenters Jacob Hornberger, Robin Koerner, Scott Horton and Cara Schulz. Hornberger is running for the LP presidential nomination, Koerner discussed the art of persuasion, Horton talked about the absurdity of US military adventurism, and Schulz conducted a seminar for prospective candidates on the nuts and bolts of campaigning.
There was an awards dinner. I received the Atticus Finch communication award, Frank Dillman received the Igniting the Flame award for effective campaigns for public office and a lifetime membership in recognition for his many efforts on behalf of bringing initiative and referendum to Alabama and his 2018 race for Macon County Commission, Richard Fast got the Rosa Parks award for activist of the year, Laura Lane received the Leigh LaChine Leadership award, and Mark Bodenhausen (RIP) and Mike Rster (in absentia) were inducted into the Hall of Liberty honoring lifetime or significant achievement that has made a lasting impact on the LPA and/or libertarian movement.
About 50 people total were in attendance, with over 40 delegates plus observers and speakers Whitney Bilyeu (LNC region rep), Scott Horton and Arthur Thomas from Texas, Spenser Garber from Florida, Robin Koerner from Washington State, Cara Schulz from Minnesota and Jacob Hornberger from Virginia.
The delegates voted to have the EC study moving Alabama from LNC region 7, which currently also includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas to region 2, currently comprised of Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. Mississippi, previously part of region 7, chose not to be part of any LNC region at the 2018 national convention.
Additional details are in my convention liveblog.

Seemed pretty for sure to me from the way he talked about it. It may technically be “exploratory” at this stage, I can’t remember for sure, but it sounded like a stump speech and he even had Scott Horton stumping for him, which was not really appropriate since iirc Horton was a paid speaker and I was specifically told before the convention that we would not be entertaining anyone seeking the presidential nomination until next year and that the speaker list was full. My recollection was fresher when I was doing the liveblog so if I said “may” then it is probably not official yet but sounded pretty much for sure. And I don’t think he is running for some other office – otherwise I would not expect to see him at state conventions other than Virginia where he lives.
Ah, I missed the mention in the liveblog. You state that he ‘may’ be running for President. Checking his website I don’t see anything that says “for president” or something similar.
Considering the rest of the field I’d be happy to see Hornberger jump in, but it doesn’t seem to be for sure thing just yet.
It’s in my liveblog, which was linked in this article. Confirm it with anyone else who was at the convention but I was there and the link to his campaign site and video is in the previous post as well.
If it is true that “Hornberger is running for the LP presidential nomination” then you’ve buried the lead. I can’t find any confirmation.
