The Free & Equal Elections Foundation held a debate yesterday in Denver featuring third party and independent presidential candidates. Video of the debate from the Facebook broadcast is embedded below:
Participants included:
- Brian Carroll, American Solidarity Party
- Brock Pierce, Independent
- Don Blankenship, Constitution Party
- Gloria La Riva, Party for Socialism & Liberation
- Howie Hawkins, Green Party
Personally, I think Jorgensen made a mistake by not showing up. Yes, she’s on all 50 states lines, and Howie is (about?) the only other one to be on more than half of ballot lines, but …
Let’s be realistic.
Trying to gain separation this way risks backfiring, I would think.
It’s true that nobody cares about this debate and no one watched it. It won’t change any significant number of votes, but why would Jo Jorgensen think that somehow she is above it? Bad visual.
I would have liked to know tht Jo Jorgensen participated in this. I am not less inclined to vote for her knowing that she chose not to participate. Here in Arizona I could, of those candidates listed above, vote for Howie Hawkins or Gloria LaRiva (eight campaigns for President are registered with the Arizona Secretary of State).

I’m also in Arizona and I voted early for Jo but I am dreadfully disappointed by her campaign. She has managed to fly under the radar so successfully that even my local paper didn’t cover her visit over the weekend. What a shame, and what a lost opportunity. Gary Johnson was a doofus but he still got millions of votes. Jo will be lucky to break a million.
Anastasia – Gary Johnson was a two-term governor with a track record of success.
Jo Jorgensen is . . . uhh . . . . a very nice person?
Now ask yourself again why she has gotten no coverage.
I’m also disappointed that Jorgensen chose not to participate, and I think it’s a miscalculation. Maybe her campaign figured that sharing a stage with unknown fringe candidates would do more harm than good. But hey, she already debated Vermin Supreme and the Mad “Taxation Is Theft” Hatter. Brand management is not her problem. It’s brand awareness.
“Gary Johnson was a two-term governor with a track record of success.”
…and a disaster as a candidate representing and promoting the Libertarian brand. That’s why I prefer to stay away from retread Republican office-holders.
Anastasia – you are free to remain a fringe nothing with 1% of the vote forever if you choose. Enjoy 🙂
Today I donated again to Jo Jorgensen’s campaign to help her become more well known to voters.
“That’s why I prefer to stay away from retread Republican office-holders.”
Or alternatively, you could consider each person on their own merits. I’m aware of one Republican office-holder who started a libertarian revolution. And I’m aware of two who squashed one.
