SPOTLIGHT | U.S. Taxpayers Party Nominates Matthew Shepherd for Michigan State Senate

At its 2022 State Convention, the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan (USTPM) nominated Matthew Shepherd for Michigan State Senate District 28.

Matthew Shepherd serves as USTPM Chair of Shiawassee County. Now retired, he served in the U.S. Army for 23 ½ years specializing in Aircraft Electronics as a Maintenance Technician and Quality Control Lead. Upon his retirement from the armed forces in 2008, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management & Marketing from the University of Phoenix, then continued his education and earned his Associate’s Degree in Alternative Energy Management from Lansing Community College.

Disappointed with both the Republican Party for its inability to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Michigan, as well as the misuse of public funds by local nonpartisan officials who happen to be members of the Republican Party, Matthew Shepherd has taken on the role of activist.

In 2012, he got the itch to get involved and ran for the State House in District 85 as an independent. In a three-way race, Mr. Shepherd received an impressive 6.5% of the vote. Afterward, he linked up with the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan, where he agreed to serve on its State Central Committee or SCC.

In 2016, during the “Red Wave” of “America First” fever, Matthew Shepherd ran for Michigan’s State Senate District 24. In a four-way race, he received 2.71% of the vote. Mr. Shepherd outperformed the Libertarian Party nominee, who received 1.91% of the vote.

The 2016 performance was not an insignificant accomplishment for the Shepherd campaign. Typically, Libertarians receive more votes than other third party candidates. Both candidates deserve credit as these vote totals for third party candidates were unusually high.

Matthew Shepherd writes patriotic poetry and articles for the Independent Newsgroup, a local independent news outlet. Shepherd advocates for ballot initiatives, petition drives, attacking corruption, and appealing for a more active citizenry to restore a government of We The People.

Aside from writing articles, he also physically engages in traveling the State of Michigan. Through attending events and actively participating in the causes he advocates for, he continues his oath to “preserve, protect, and defend” the nation he loves and that which binds that nation together.

He is a true soldier at heart, no longer battling conflicts overseas but now battling his own government via the democratic process for no less than the complete restoration of our Constitutional Republic as intended by our Founding Fathers.

Elections for the Michigan State Senate will take place on November 8, 2022. Republican Daylen Howard, Democrat Sam Singh, and Matthew Shepherd with the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan are running in the general election for State Senate District 28.

Good for him! I was born and raised in Shiawassee County. It used to be about a Republican as it could be. I wish him well.
