Socialist Workers Party Announces Rachele Fruit and Margaret Trowe as 2024 Presidential Ticket

The Socialist Workers Party announced its 2024 presidential ticket earlier this month, selecting Rachele Fruit of Miami, Florida, as the party’s presidential nominee and Margaret Trowe of Oakland, California, as its vice-presidential nominee.

According to a recent issue of the Militant, the official publication of the Socialist Worker’s Party, the announcement was initially made by Socialist Workers National Campaign Director John Studer during a mid-February campaign meeting in New Jersey in support of SWP candidates for the United States Senate and Congress.

Both women are long-time party supporters with a background in the labor movement. Fruit, a hotel worker and veteran trade unionist, has been a member of the Socialist Workers Party since 1970. She is a prior candidate, having run for local and statewide office with the party in Georgia, Florida, and Michigan. Trowe, a production worker and union member, became involved with the party in 1975. She is also a former candidate for local and statewide office.

The ticket plans to campaign extensively across the United States and “around the world,” beginning with a West Coast tour in Oakland on March 2, 2024. “We find more people than ever open to a revolutionary working-class program,” the Militant quoted Fruit as saying. Their platform emphasizes the need for workers to break away from the traditional parties and advocates for labor rights, solidarity, and opposition to imperialist wars.
