The Arizona Green Party concluded its party-organized presidential primary on Tuesday, giving three of its four delegates to Dr. Jill Stein. The primary ran from February 21 to March 19, 2024, and was conducted using a virtual ballot available to eligible voters.
According to the party, voters who wished to participate in the primary had to be registered Arizona voters who specified “Green Party” as their political preference by the February 20 deadline. Although the party did not qualify to participate in Arizona’s Presidential Primary Election, it made efforts to align all dates and deadlines for voter registration, early voting, and ballot submission as closely as possible with those of the state primary in an effort to “minimize voter confusion, and to ensure as much synchronicity with AZ statutes regarding the PPE as is practical.”
An online ballot was accessible through Google Forms until the polls closed at 7:00 PM MST on Tuesday. The party indicated earlier on that it cross-referenced ballots with voter data from County Recorders, invalidating any submissions that did not meet the criteria.
The Arizona Green Party announced the official results late Tuesday night. The primary was conducted using proportional ranked-choice voting, with results ultimately being determined after a single round. While specific vote totals were not announced, Dr. Jill Stein emerged as the winner of the primary with 73.5% of support. Following her were Jasmine Sherman with 23.5% and Jorge Zavala with 3%.
Candidate Name | Vote Total | Vote Percentage | Allocated Delegates |
Dr. Jill Stein | – | 73.5% | 3 |
Jasmine Sherman | – | 23.5% | 1 |
Jorge Zavala | – | 3% | 0 |
Write-in (w) | – | 0% | 0 |
Delegates were allocated proportionally, with candidates needing at least 20% of the vote plus one to earn one of Arizona’s four delegates to the Green Party’s Presidential Nominating Convention in July. As a result, Stein received three delegates, while Sherman received one.
