Independent Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema announced on Tuesday that she will leave office at the end of her term, citing that voters do not want her approach to government right now. Initially elected as a Democrat, Sinema has represented Arizona in the United States Senate since 2018.
In a video posted to X, Sinema listed a number of accomplishments that occurred during her time in the Senate. She remarked on the bipartisan nature of her approach before lamenting that political victories often seem to be only symbolic, and that there is a prevailing desire for an “all-or-nothing outcome” rather than compromise.
“I believe in my approach, but it’s not what America wants right now. I love Arizona, and I’m so proud of what we delivered,” Sinema said. “Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff down, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year.”
Although Sinema never formally declared her candidacy for reelection, she was often considered a potential third party candidate in a race that included Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego and Republican Kari Lake. Readers can view Sinema’s full video posted on X below:
Krysten Sinema initially left the Democratic Party in late 2022, stating then, “A growing number of Arizonans and people like me just don’t feel like we fit neatly in one party’s box or the other. So, like many across the state and the nation, I decided to leave.”
I’m thinking a George Santos/Robert Menendez ticket says it all!
What America needs is a Haley/Sinema ticket with No Labels.
