Super Tuesday Sees Presidential Primaries for American Independent and Peace and Freedom Parties in California

Two California political parties, the American Independent Party and the Peace and Freedom Party, also held presidential primaries as part of Super Tuesday yesterday. Write-in votes have yet to be counted, and California has until April 12 to certify results.

Three candidates appeared on the ballot for the presidential primary of the Peace and Freedom Party: Dr. Cornel West, Jasmine Sherman, and Claudia De la Cruz. There were no recognized write-in candidates. All three candidates are also seeking the presidency outside of the Peace and Freedom Party, which has historically allowed candidates to use its ballot access line.

According to the California Secretary of State’s office, De la Cruz came in first of the three, earning 2,936 votes and accounting for 45% of the total. She is followed by West, who received 2,657 votes, and Sherman with 925.
