The chairs of the five state Libertarian Party chapters in the seventh region of the Libertarian National Committee are demanding the removal of LNC At-Large member Adrian Malagon. Their demand was communicated in a letter sent to the Libertarian National Committee on Monday night.
In the letter, later shared by Libertarian Party of Louisiana Chair Heide Alejandro-Smith in the “LNC Business – Discuss” Facebook group, the five chairs criticize Libertarian National Committee At-Large Representative Adrian Malagon for twice moving to exclude Region 7 Representative Beth Vest from an executive session meeting of the LNC Executive Committee without basis or merit.
“We, the chairs of Region 7, are appalled at the events preceding the Executive Committee meeting on 29 March 2024,” the letter opens. “At large representative Adrian Malagon made motion to exclude our representative Beth Vest from observing the ExCom meeting with a reason that has no basis nor merit, repeating actions prior to the previous ExCom meeting on 4 February 2024.”
Dr. George Phillies, who also covered the letter on Third Party Watch, notes that while the Executive Committee has the authority to choose who attends their meetings, such exclusions are a recent occurrence. A full public copy of the letter remains available on Third Party Watch.
The letter further criticizes Malagon’s behavior as “unprofessional and detrimental” to the business of the Libertarian National Committee, ultimately calling for his immediate removal. The signatories—Michael Pakko, Heide Alejandro-Smith, Dustin Coffell, Christopher Powell, and Whitney Bilyeu—represent the Libertarian parties of Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas, respectively.
The Libertarian National Committee has not specifically addressed the letter since it was sent by Alejandro-Smith. However, a mock motion was made by Region 5 Representative Otto Dassig on the LNC Public Business list that night, calling for Malagon’s removal as the Region 4 Representative. Malagon, who does not hold that position, co-sponsored the motion.
