The Reform Party of the United States announced this week that it has endorsed Dan Osborn for the U.S. Senate race in Nebraska. Osborn is running as an independent candidate.
In a brief social media statement, the Reform Party announced its support for Osborn’s independent Senate bid but otherwise has not provided further details at this time. Osborn is competing against incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer, the only other candidate on the ballot. Polling conducted since the beginning of the year has frequently shown Osborn and Fischer statistically tied or within the margins of error.
Osborn initially courted Democratic support for his campaign but later reversed his decision, saying in a press event that he chose not to seek the endorsement of any political party. This change led to no Democrat appearing on the ballot in time for the state primary, although there were indications of a potential write-in candidate. Osborn also briefly sought support from state Libertarians.
Kerry Eddy, a candidate from the Legal Marijuana NOW! Party of Nebraska, also initially earned ballot access by winning the party’s primary. However, Eddy, who indicated that she would support Osborn, withdrew from the race to support him following her victory. Although the Legal Marijuana NOW! Party had the option to field a replacement candidate, Chair Mark Elworth Jr. stated in a local interview that the party decided against it due to threats of legal action from supporters of both Osborn and Eddy.
