Former Constitution Party Nominee Randall Terry to Seek Sixth Congressional District in Florida Special Election

Randall Terry, who ran this past election cycle as the Constitution Party’s presidential nominee, is reportedly planning to run in the special election for Florida’s sixth congressional district next year. A vacancy for the seat was created after President-elect Donald Trump named Rep. Michael Waltz as his next National Security Advisor.

“Fresh off [his] presidential bid, which he used to run gruesome anti-abortion ads, Randall Terry tells me he’s running to replace Florida Rep. Michael Waltz – Trump’s NSA pick,” Semafor journalist Dave Weigel posted on social media last week.

Terry reportedly confirmed to Weigel that he intends to run for the seat, saying to him that he would be a “loyal soldier for President Trump” and “faithful warrior to defend children.” It’s not yet clear which party Terry plans to run with or whether he even intends to participate in the primaries. Terry has been involved with several political organizations, including the Republican, Democratic, Constitution, and Right to Life parties. The Constitution Party, which is his most recent affiliation, is currently recognized as a minor political party in Florida.

Terry has previously run for public office, including an earlier bid the presidency in 2012, several congressional campaigns in Florida and New York, and a race for the Florida state legislature. As a congressional candidate, Terry mounted an independent bid in Florida’s 20th congressional district in 2012 while also running his first presidential campaign. While in New York, he ran its 26th and 23rd congressional districts, appearing on the ballot both times under the Right to Life Party label. Notably, during his 1998 campaign, he also unsuccessfully sought endorsements from the Republican and Conservative parties.

Primary races for Florida’s sixth congressional district have since been announced for January 28, with the general election date set for April 1. Candidates running in the district who sought to qualify for the ballot in the 2024 election were previously required to collect 5,443 valid signatures.

“Wow! And he did SO well in the presidential race!”

    This but unironically.

“presidential bid, which he used to run gruesome anti-abortion ads”

“Gruesome anti-abortion ads”? You mean simply confronting people with the reality of what “pro-choice” means?

“he would be a ‘loyal soldier for President Trump’ and ‘faithful warrior to defend children.’”

That’s a paradox. The only solution is to be loyal to Trump in the less obvious sense of doing what is best for him rather than what he asks or tells you to. And that won’t make Terry any friends in the rhinoceros-maggot party – whose label he won’t be allowed to run under because of his pro-life stance anyway. (It’s nothing short of a miracle that the Florida GOP ever allowed someone as relatively sensible as DeSantis to run for congress and governor!)
