The Constitution Party of West Virginia announced this week that it is now an officially recognized party following the performance of its 2024 gubernatorial candidate. The party also rescheduled a previously planned leadership summit featuring its national chair, which was delayed due to inclement weather.
“The Constitution Party of West Virginia is now an officially recognized political party in West Virginia,” the party declared in a press release shared on social media. “Gubernatorial candidate S. Marshall Wilson received enough votes in the 2024 general election to guarantee ballot access to The Constitution Party.”
According to election results from the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office, Wilson garnered 16,828 votes, accounting for 2.27% of the total—exceeding the one-percent threshold required for the party to gain recognized status. As a recognized party, the Constitution Party of West Virginia will now have the option to nominate candidates by either hosting a primary election or a nomination convention. As of publication, the Secretary of State’s website does not yet list the party among officially recognized groups, which includes the Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, and Mountain parties.
The party also announced that its winter summit, originally scheduled to take place in Parkersburg earlier this month, will now be held at the beginning of February at the same location. Independent Political Report previously referenced the event in an article on former West Virginia House Delegate Roger Conley, who revealed last month that he had left the Republican Party to join the Constitution Party.
“The two-party system has had a stranglehold on the government for far too long. Our government no longer functions as our founders intended, according to The U.S. Constitution. The purpose of the winter summit is to inform citizens about the Constitution Party, talk about the platform of the party and to discuss strategic goals,” the party said of the event.
Speakers for the summit will include the Constitution Party’s new national chair Justin Magill, regional chair Bob Goodrich, state chair of the Constitution Party of West Virginia Amy Stull, and Wilson. The party added that the event will be open to all West Virginians “regardless of political affiliation.”
Marshall Wilson… Marshall Wilson… Where do I know that name from? Oh right! The guy who was so salty that Joel Skousen lost the nomination, that he sabotaged the CPVW’s petition drive to ensure Randall Terry wouldn’t appear on the ballot in West Virginia, but he himself would still be on it as gubernatorial candidate… What a petty scumbag U+1F92E It’s a miracle he didn’t screw the CPVW out of recognized party status, after ticking-off party members with his childish antics.
