The chair of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi has stepped down, with the state party announcing a leadership transition in a press release published Monday.
In a statement shared on social media, the party announced that Glen Lewis resigned from his role as state chair. Lewis was first elected to the position at the Libertarian Party of Mississippi’s 2024 state convention and was reelected to a second term during the party’s most recent convention in January. He also previously ran for state Senate in 2023 as a Libertarian, earning just over 30 percent of the vote in a two-way race.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Glen for his tireless dedication, vision, and leadership during his tenure,” the party wrote. “His contributions have strengthened our party and advanced the cause of liberty in Mississippi.”
The party did not provide a specific reason for Lewis’ resignation. However, it noted that under its bylaws, Vice Chair Jonathan Dantzler has assumed the role of chair. As a result, the vice chair position is now vacant until a replacement is named. According to party rules, the chair may appoint a current dues-paying member to fill the vacancy, subject to final confirmation by a majority vote of the Executive Committee.
