United Utah and Utah Forward Parties Approve Vote to Merge

Members of the United Utah and Utah Forward parties voted over the weekend to merge the two organizations into one new political party. Delegates from both groups held a joint convention this past weekend at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City.

According to local media reports, members from both parties voted nearly unanimously to approve the merger, which was first announced this month. A Memorandum of Understanding signed by leaders from both groups outlined that the merger would combine party resources, assets, and membership bases, as well as establish new leadership and a new party name.

“Our merger with [Utah Forward Party] has been approved by our membership!” the United Utah Party announced over the weekend on social media, “We are excited about this new chapter and look forward to working hard for good government in Utah and beyond.”

As of this article on Monday, April 28, the Utah Forward Party had not yet made an official statement; however, Forward Party co-founder Andrew Yang praised the merger, calling it a historic moment for Utah politics.

The two organizations announced last week that United Utah Party member and former 2024 Utah Attorney General candidate Michelle Quist would serve as chair of the newly combined party. The Executive Committee will include six members, with leadership shared between representatives of both groups.

Ladd Johnson of the United Utah Party will serve as Director of Outreach, while David Hinckley, Lynn Taylor, and Phil Boileau of the Utah Forward Party will serve as Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Director of Press, respectively. Adam Teuscher, former Utah Forward Party Chair, and Orlando Williams, former United Utah Party Treasurer, will also serve as members of the new central committee.
