North Carolina Forward Party Hosting Local Political Leaders for “Rise of the Third Parties” Event

The North Carolina Forward Party is hosting an event featuring other local party leaders examining the impact of political organizations outside of the Republican and Democratic parties on the election system. The panel will take place in Raleigh later this month.

The party first announced the discussion, titled “Rise of the Third Parties,” late last month. It is scheduled for May 30 at 6:30 PM local time, and will take place at North Carolina State University’s Talley Student Union. The event will feature a panel between several local political leaders sharing their thoughts on the future of American democracy, electoral reform, and the appeal of alternative political parties. According to the Forward Party, local college students and members of the public are invited to attend.

“As the American political landscape continues to evolve, third parties are playing an increasingly vital role in shaping policy,” event details state, “challenging the status quo, and offering new choices to voters disillusioned with the traditional two-party system.”

Confirmed panelists include Patrick Newton, state chair of the North Carolina Forward Party; Italo Medilus, chair of the Justice For All Party of North Carolina, which was originally created in 2024 to support the independent presidential campaign of Dr. Cornel West; Brad Hessel, chair of the Wake County Libertarian Party; and James Bledsoe, state chair of the Veterans Party.

They will also be joined by Travis Groo, president of Better Ballot NC, a nonprofit organization advocating for the adoption of ranked-choice voting in the state.
