Forward Party Polls Supporters on Preference of Government Cuts

The Forward Party released another installment of its Controlling What You Can series this week, asking supporters where they would prefer to see government spending cuts. No single option received a majority consensus.

Like in previous polls, the party presented its X followers with four specific options. It did not conduct a separate slider poll, as this question was a continuation of a previous discussion on whether supporters preferred raising revenue or cutting expenditures to address the national debt. That earlier poll found a close split, with 51% favoring revenue increases. The party has since been exploring both sides more deeply.

Of the 3,387 responses, which the party described as its “best response rate yet,” 34.6% said they would prioritize cuts to military and defense spending. Meanwhile, 25.9% supported reducing Social Security, Medicare, and SNAP benefits, and a similar 25.5% backed cutting government operating costs. The remaining 13.9% favored ending subsidies to businesses.

“Arguments of a specific implementation aside, it seems as if the goals of DOGE are something that a good percentage of you believe in,” the party stated with the results. “And while reductions to Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and SNAP programs are politically and financially difficult because of the nature of those programs, many Forwardists see that as necessary towards long-term fiscal health.”

Though it received the fewest votes, the party said that the option to cut subsidies to businesses attracted some of the most passionate commentary. Respondents referred to the current system as a “corporate entitlement program” and criticized tax breaks for oil and real estate companies in particular, saying they waste public funds and distort the free market.

Supporters who favored cuts to military spending frequently suggested scaling down naval operations, eliminating redundant equipment, and focusing on cost-effective drone technologies. Others called for reforming Social Security, citing concerns about fiscal mismanagement and fraud. The party noted that it would follow up with a separate poll to better understand which specific reforms Forwardists most support for entitlement programs.
