The Green Party of Hawai’i will hold its annual convention remotely on Saturday, June 21. A local watch party will also take place in Pa’auilo on the Big Island.
According to details shared over the past weekend, the convention will be conducted over Zoom and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. local time. Individuals interested in attending the Pa’auilo watch party are asked to contact the party ahead of time. Members may also choose to host their own gatherings. The convention is free to attend and open to members of the public.
While a full agenda has not been publicly released, the party has announced that peace activist Jim Albertini will open the convention with a guest speech on the militarization of Hawai’i. Albertini is the founder of the Malu ‘Āina Center for Non-Violent Education & Action, a nonprofit he established in 1980 following a donation of 22 acres of land. The center is rooted in principles of peace, justice, and sustainable farming, and has long opposed the militarization of the state.
Following Albertini’s remarks, voting members will elect new state party officers and select delegates and alternates to represent the Green Party of Hawai’i on the Green Party’s National Committee. The state party currently holds two seats on the committee.
