Arkansas Libertarians Say Nearly 10,000 Signatures Collected for Ballot Access

The Libertarian Party of Arkansas reported this month that it has gathered nearly 10,000 signatures toward retaining statewide ballot access, and is aiming to collect several thousand more. The party first began circulating petitions in May.

In a newsletter update published August 17, the state party reported “nearly 10,000” signatures in hand toward requalifying as a recognized political party. Arkansas law requires parties seeking to requalify for the next election cycle to collect a total of 10,000 valid signatures from registered voters. To ensure the minimum is met, state party leaders have said they are aiming for at least 13,000 signatures.

The petition drive has relied on both volunteers and paid petitioners. According to details, volunteers have accounted for nearly one-fifth of the signatures collected, with the remainder gathered through paid efforts. However, the party cautions that funding for paid petitioners is running low and operations could shift to a volunteer-only basis without additional support.

While Arkansas Libertarians have successfully regained ballot access in every election cycle since 2014, party leaders argue that the petition threshold remains a recurring challenge, adding that “success is not guaranteed.”

More recently, on Sunday, August 24, the Libertarian National Committee’s Executive Committee voted 4–1–1 to encumber $10,000 for the Arkansas petition drive. During discussion that evening, proponents, including LNC Treasurer and National Ballot Access Coordinator Bill Redpath, argued for the funding as a means to keep petitioners in the field at favorable rates, noting that the current contract window offers a better cost-per-signature than later in the cycle.

The party has until February to finish collecting signatures and, if successful in meeting the requirement, would be able to place a full slate of candidates on the 2026 ballot.

To give additional context on how fast the party is collecting, members reported around 8,000 signatures in July.
