Conservative Party of New York State Calls for United Nations to Leave Manhattan

The Conservative Party of New York State called on the United Nations this week to relocate its headquarters outside of the United States, citing what party leaders describe as the institution’s “moral deterioration” and hostility toward American values.

In a September 24 statement, Conservative State Chair Gerard Kassar said the UN has devolved from a postwar symbol of hope into what he called a “bureaucratic shell” dominated by “anti-American, anti-Semitic, career bureaucrats.”

“New Yorkers once took pride that our city hosted the United Nations,” Kassar said. “It was a symbol of hope after World War II, and it gave New York a special distinction as the ‘Capital of the World.’ Sadly, the institution has since devolved into a body dominated by anti-American, anti-Semitic, career bureaucrats. It is no longer a source of pride but of embarrassment.”

The statement came a day after President Donald Trump delivered a sharply critical address to the UN, accusing it of undermining national sovereignty and questioning its effectiveness.

Kassar also pointed to longstanding complaints about UN diplomats flouting New York City’s traffic and parking laws, arguing that their conduct shows “contempt” for the city even as it hosts and protects them, and is “symbolic of the organization’s larger failings.” Such issues have been documented over the years, with the City of New York and the U.S. Department of State maintaining a diplomatic parking program to track violations and issue fines, though enforcement is still limited by diplomatic immunity.

The Conservative Party’s statement further raised concerns about the value of the East River real estate currently occupied by the UN complex. “That property is priceless,” Kassar added. “New Yorkers would be far better served by a public park with a water view than by continuing to subsidize an institution that works against the interests of our nation and our allies.”

“The time has come for the United Nations to find a new home—if any country would be willing to accept a body that has morally deteriorated to the point of uselessness,” it closed. “New York has been more than generous for nearly eight decades. It’s someone else’s turn.”

Chairing a political party just to tow the major party line is certainly a choice…
