Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts to Adopt Updated Platform at Special October Convention

The Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts will hold a Platform Convention in October to review and adopt an updated party platform. The organization has called the document a “new horizon.”

The convention will take place October 4 at the Friends Meeting House in Worcester. It will be the party’s second major gathering this year. Registration is open until September 20 and is exclusive to registered Green-Rainbow Party members, with additional information available on the party’s website. There will also be a potluck with participants asked to bring refreshments.

The party published a revised platform on July 17 reflecting the initial draft changes. It has since been soliciting member input and feedback, which it states will then be incorporated into the version presented to members next month for final approval. “This new, invigorating, and enlightening document shows that commitment we have to be the best electoral option for the people and planet!” the party added.

Under current Green-Rainbow Party bylaws, amending the platform and formally endorsing specific positions are typically addressed during the party’s annual state convention. The bylaws also permit the organization to host additional conventions in a year if either two-thirds of the Green-Rainbow Party State Committee or enough of the party’s various recognized caucuses request it.

The party already met in Worcester in May for what it called a joint Solidarity Conference and State Convention, where initial platform conversations were part of the agenda. Independent Political Report is not aware if the upcoming platform convention is at all a direct continuation of those earlier discussions.
