Pirate National Committee Votes to Recognize Ohio as New Member State, Approves Bylaws for Youth Affiliate

The Pirate National Committee has voted to recognize the Ohio Pirate Party as its ninth national committee member state. It also approved new bylaws for Young Pirates USA, its youth affiliate for members aged 13 to 25.

In a January 5 update to members, the Pirate Party announced that its national committee voted unanimously to recognize the Ohio state affiliate at its first meeting of the year, which was held remotely the previous afternoon. With the vote, Ohio joins Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Indiana as active member states with voting representation on the national committee.

In addition to its nine member states, the Pirate National Committee also has over a dozen observer states that do not currently have voting representatives.

During the same meeting, the committee approved bylaws for Young Pirates USA, the U.S. Pirate Party’s youth wing. The chapter was initially established last year, with members electing the group’s first national chair at the 2025 Pirate National Conference. While a copy of the bylaws has not yet been made publicly available, the party said Young Pirates USA co-captains Jack Leisey and Lily Boyt were both in attendance for the vote.

The party also shared brief updates from some of its other state affiliates, reporting that both the Arizona and Illinois Pirate Party organizations have already held their first in-person meetings of 2026. Additional meetings for state parties and local affiliates are planned in the coming weeks. The national party indicated that it also expects to announce additional candidates in the near future, as affiliates continue organizing for the 2026 election cycle.
