U.S. Pirate Party Endorses Fmr. Captain Drew Bingaman in Pennsylvania Democratic Primary

The United States Pirate Party has endorsed former national captain Drew Bingaman in his bid for the Democratic nomination in Pennsylvania’s 108th House District. In a statement of support, party leadership praised Bingaman as “a fighter and a champion” for the Pirate cause.

Pirate National Committee Captain Jolly Mitch Davilo reported this week that the endorsement was made during the national organization’s January 11 meeting. According to a video recording, the national committee voted unanimously to support Bingaman’s bid.

Bingaman first announced his candidacy last October, organizing in response to political centralization and what he characterized as a lack of transparency in government. In a statement at the time, Bingaman said he sought to defend individual liberty, promote open government, and push back against instances of corruption and unchecked power at both the state and national levels.

“I believe the states must once again serve as the guardians of liberty — the last line of defense against overreach and corruption,” Bingaman stated. “Pennsylvania was founded on the idea that government exists to serve the people, not rule over them. That’s the ideal I’m fighting to restore.”

Bingaman previously led the U.S. Pirate Party as its Captain before losing to Davilo in the party’s 2025 national leadership elections. During his tenure, the party held its first in-person national conference, endorsed a presidential candidate for the first time since the 2008 election cycle, and added Texas and Florida as members to the Pirate National Committee.

“As his successor, and this is Jolly Mitch speaking, I can promise you that Drew Bingaman’s leadership shaped my opinion of what makes a good leader,” Davilo wrote in the recent statement. “Drew’s steady hand, honesty and commitment to betterment are qualities I can only hope to emulate as Captain, and that those qualities are sure to shine as candidate for PA 108.”

The Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 108th House District is scheduled for May 19. Republican Michael Stender won the seat in 2024 without opposition in the general election. As of January 19, Independent Political Report is unaware of any other candidates who have formally announced campaigns for the district.
