Prohibition Party Secures Limited Political Party Status in Alaska

The Prohibition Party has been recognized as a limited political party by the Alaska Division of Elections and intends to field a candidate in the state for the next presidential election cycle, according to recent updates shared by its New York affiliate.

The Prohibition Party of New York released its monthly newsletter this week with updates on both its activities and those of the national party. According to the newsletter, the national organization recently succeeded in securing limited party status in Alaska after previously announcing plans earlier this year to place a presidential candidate on the state’s ballot.

Under Alaska law, limited political party status allows political groups to place presidential electors on the general election ballot. To qualify for the 2028 cycle, the party was required to collect at least 3,409 valid signatures. It already has its registered members reflected on state voter rolls.

The newsletter states that the Alaska Division of Elections later confirmed to national party leadership that its petitions had been approved. According to the update, the party is now working to identify three members to serve as presidential electors in order to take advantage of that status.

While neither the New York affiliate’s newsletter nor the national party website specifies when the change took effect, archived versions of the division’s website suggest the party was added sometime after February 14. It joins the American Solidarity Party as the only other organization currently listed as a limited political party in Alaska.

This will be the first time in its history that the party has placed a presidential ticket on the Alaska ballot. To maintain that status, its presidential ticket will need to receive at least three percent of the vote in the 2028 election.
