Constitution Party, Green, and Independent Figures to Join Panel on Working Outside the Two-Party System

Several figures affiliated with third party and independent political organizations will participate in a virtual panel on May 7 focused on the two-party system and the challenges of coordinating reform efforts outside it.

The event, titled Real Solutions For Broken Government, is scheduled for 5:00p ET and will feature a 90-minute discussion moderated by Stu Strumwasser, author of “A Real Collusion”, a political novel that follows an outsider candidate leading a grassroots independent movement challenging the two-party system. It is free and open to the public, with registration required.

According to details online, the panel will explore critiques of the two-party system and strategies for organizing outside it, with particular attention to how “fragmented organizations” with overlapping goals can collaborate more effectively. The discussion will also touch on how a novel like Strumwasser’s can serve as a roadmap for political reform.

The discussion is also expected to address topics including organizing independent political power, creating fair and equal representation in government, and the role of citizen oversight of elected officials.

Announced panelists include Justin Magill, chair of the Constitution Party National Committee, and Laura Wells, a longtime Green Party activist who has run multiple congressional and statewide campaigns in California.

They will be joined by several participants involved in independent politics more broadly, including John Opdycke, founder and president of Open Primaries; Adam Brandon, a senior advisor with the Independent Center; Chris Life, president of United Independents; and Sarah Whitman, a social media commentator focused on political reform.
