The Green Party of New Jersey will meet in Lawrence Township this weekend for its annual state convention, where members will review bylaws changes affecting voting rights, candidate eligibility, caucus participation, and other items of party governance.
The convention is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library, and will begin at 10:00a ET. According to a call-to-convention, the event will also include introductions to the party’s 2026 candidate slate and elections for new state leadership. It will be held in-person, with remote access accommodations available and a Zoom link to be provided through the party’s convention page.
Convention participants must be registered New Jersey voters affiliated with the Green Party who met the April 8 cutoff to vote or run for leadership positions at the convention. Dues-paying members were required to remit their $25 annual dues through the state party website by March 8.
The published agenda includes committee and caucus updates, candidate introductions, guest speakers, a keynote address, bylaws review and voting, officer and delegate elections, and a candidate school for current candidates. Listed speaker topics include housing, ranked choice voting, and healthcare, though the party has not yet identified the individual speakers.
A list of proposed bylaws changes released by the party shows that members will consider updating the state party’s purpose to align with the national organization, making “member in good standing” the standard for voting rights and candidate eligibility, removing a first-year good-standing grace period for new members, and requiring members to be notified of status changes by the Membership Committee.
Other proposed revisions would consolidate caucus duties into one shared list, allow identity caucus participation by any general member who identifies with the caucus, and add an Arab American Muslim caucus to the list of recognized groups.
